Filmmaker and producer Timur Bekmambetov is someone I think we can all appreciate. His resumé is ripe with great titles and seveal of which come peppered with some bold and exciting visuals, including 2009’s Wanted for which I personally remain pining for a sequel. For now though, it’s onward to the last few days which have graced us with a few new stills from his latest foray into biblical territory, Ben-Hur. Actor Jack Huston claims the lead role next to Morgan Freeman and Toby Kebbell here for a third-go around in the film’s history following versions in 1925 and its 11 Oscar-winning 1959 iteration, the latter being the most prolific with actor Charlton Heston. SYNOPSIS: BEN-HUR is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Well, another biblical epic is underway with the current remake production of Ben-Hur. Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) is directing this time around and considering his visual flair, it will be interesting to see how he applies his formula here. This is just one of several biblical spectacles to hit the big screen in recent years, and if you’ve been keeping up and you’ve enjoyed the rollout thusfar with films like Noah and Exodus: Gods And Kings, feel free to keep an eye out for this one in the coming months. It’s been a year since producer Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) officially announced production for what he and the crew are billing as “the world’s first ever POV sci-fi action movie”, titled Hardcore. It came at the height of popularity over director Ilya Naishuller‘s explosive viral music video sensation, “Bad Motherfucker”, which featured its own theme filled with first-person POV-style parkour and car chase sequences, fist fights and whimsical elements of science fiction to boot, ultimately garnering millions upon millions of views on YouTube and multiple sites. Well, we are a year and a half into waiting now, and with starring actor Sharlto Copley gaining timely traction for the upcoming release of Chappie, the team behind Hardcore are going public with a serious progress report in the form of a three-minute clip showcasing just what lies ahead for the film’s release. Mind you, what they were promising moviegoers was a feature-length thriller […]
