Sony Pictures is going hard in the final weeks with its campaign to promote Tomek Baginski’s new film, Knights Of The Zodiac, and they’re following up with a bevy of promotional artwork to help build on the momentum. The artwork features the cast led by Mackenyu (Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable), who takes the mantle for the film’s central narrative stemming from Masami Kurumada’s hit manga, “Saint Seiya.” Based on the international anime sensation, Knights of the Zodiac brings the Saint Seiya saga to the big screen in live-action for the first time. Earlier: Sony Pictures and Stage 6 have revealed the official US poster on Friday during WonderCon for Knights Of The Zodiac, opening in theaters on May 12. Tomasz Baginski directs the live-action adaptation of the hit “Saint Seiya” manga and anime franchise, that now features international star Mackenyu Arata (Rurouni Kenshin: The Final) in the lead role. When a headstrong street orphan in search of his abducted sister unwittingly taps into hidden powers, he discovers he might be the only person alive who can protect a reincarnated goddess, sent to watch over humanity. Oscar-nominated shorts director Tomek Bagiński first came on our radar several years ago with a series of Allegro-backed fantasy shorts titled Polish Legends. He’s attained other credits both before and after and he’s currently executive producing The Witcher series for Netflix while things are slowly gaining traction on the market front for his feature debut on live-action anime adaptation, Knights Of The Zodiac: Saint Seiya. As Screendaily notes, GFM Films is reportedly boarding sales on the project at the American Film Market and is providing funding alongside Toei Animation Co., Sola Entertainment and A Really Good Film Company. Based on the work of mangaka Kurumada Masami, the manga launched in 1986 from Shueisha and carried over through 1990 at Weekly Shōnen Jump.
