BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS – What We Know

Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have shared further details on their project set in the beloved Blade Runner universe, to air in the fall. The series is produced by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo), and directed by Shinji Aramaki (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ultraman [Manga] ) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Ultraman [Manga] ). Sola Digital Arts is the animation studio. The show, originally announced in 2018, will be available on Crunchyroll with Japanese Voice-Over and English Subtitles. Adult Swim will carry the dubbed series on it’s Toonami block., and will run for 13 episodes of 30 minutes each. Sixteen years after its birth on Cartoon Network, the hit animated series, Samurai Jack will reach its peak with a final chapter for its season 5 premiere on March 11. Phil LaMarr returns to voice the title role, a samurai fighting to find a way back to the past after initially being swept into the future by Aku, his demonic nemesis voiced by late actor Iwamatsu Mako. SYNOPSIS: It’s been 50 years since we saw Samurai Jack and time has not been kind to him. Aku has destroyed every time portal and Jack has stopped aging, a side effect of time travel. After eleven years, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim is making probably one of the biggest and most delightfully surprising revivals for its viewers with the return of the hit show, Samurai Jack. The show, created by Genndy Tartakovsky and featuing voice actor Phil LaMarr in the lead role, originally lasted four seasons following the story of Jack, samurai warrior spirited away into the future where a shapeshifting demon named Aku now rules all, setting Jack on a quest to find his way back to feudal Japan and stop Aku to save the future. The show became an award-winning feat for the Primetime Emmys and in Ottawa prior to its unfortunate cancellation in 2004 much to the chagrin of beloved fans, even in the wake of its existence in comics with some fans contributing their own faithful cinematic renditions of the animated series like the one in this link.
