Stuntman opens in UK and Irish cinemas on October 11. I’ve been able to see nearly twenty of the films involving actor and action choreographer Tung Wai. Nowadays, I and a plethora of Hong Kong movie aficionados familiar with his work can include his latest starring role in Stuntman, an ode to the legacy of dauntless stunt professionals in film and television, including and namely those in the city where chance moments to revive the bygone era of action cinema are otherwise at times fleeting. It is a struggle accentuated accordingly by Herbert Leung and Albert Leung, stunt professionals themselves who’ve since taken the mantle for their directorial debut. To add, the casting is spruced up with the likes of actor and stunt and action multi-hyphenate Tung for the lead role alongside fellow frontmen Terrence Lau and Philip Ng, both back for another row on the screen since going toe-to-toe […]
Trinity CineAsia hit the ground running over the weekend announcing an October 11 theatrical release in the UK and Ireland for Hong Kong action drama, Stuntman. The film stars Terrance Lau and Philip Ng, along with stunt veteran Stephen Tung Wai, a seven-time winner of Best Action Choreography at the Hong Kong Film Awards, marking his latest return after seven years. The story follows a washed-up action choreographer who is struggling to find his way in a changing industry. He risks everything to stage a comeback, while also attempting to repair the relationship with his estranged daughter. Stuntman is co-directed by Albert and Herbert Leung, both real stuntmen-turned-filmmakers, who draw from their own professional experiences to create this dramatic, moving and inspiring story. Stuntman also stars Cecilia Choi, Sing Lam, and Rachel Leung. The company also revealed its latest promo which you can view below.
Trinity CineAsia is out to make its case with the upcoming UK/Irish home releases of Soi Cheang’s Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In. The film stars Raymond Lam, Terrence Lau, German Cheung and Tony Wu, along with Louis Koo, Sammo Hung, Richie Jen, and Philip Ng. From award-winning director Soi Cheang (Mad Fate, Limbo, Dog Bite Dog), this gritty, fight-filled epic is adapted from the cult Manga series “City of Darkness” by Andy Seto and based on the novel by Yuyi. Set in British colonial Hong Kong in the 1980’s, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In follows a troubled youth as he accidentally enters the infamous Kowloon Walled City – a dangerous Chinese enclave ripe with gang crime and corruption. He soon discovers order amidst the chaos, and gains life lessons from the inhabitants as they resist a villainous invasion. With a production budget of $40 million USD, it is […]
Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled-In opens in the UK and Ireland on May 24 from Trinity CineAsia. 12 min. read Filmmaker Soi Cheang is riding high after nabbing a trio of Bests at the 42nd edition of the Hong Kong Film Awards for his 2023 crime flick, Mad Fate. His 2009 contract killer feature, Accident, is also subject to a Korean remake pending its release this month starring Gang Dong-won. These are just a few of the recent milestones he’s reached in time for his latest thriller, Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In. Cheang has more than earned his share of ceremony, having directed and produced some of the biggest hits of the last twenty years, including an ample handful in the action arena. He reteams with actor Louis Koo who starred in Accident, and with whom he also collaborated on director Wilson Yip’s S.P.L. franchise entry, Paradox. Remarkably, that […]

The excellent ensemble cast brings together rising stars Raymond Lam (Detective vs Sleuths), Terrance Lau (Anita), Tony Wu (The Lyricist Wannabe) and […]
The Goldfinger opens on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital in the UK from Trinity CineAsia on May 20. Fictionalized or otherwise inspired retellings of the travails of Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) continue to reap creative fruit for filmmakers. Several years ago saw Felix Chong take the leap for his own focused tale dating as far back as the beginnings of the ICAC in the 1970s, and therein, the tale of an engineer-turned-billionaire fraudster in the new crime drama, The Goldfinger. Reteaming with one of the key shepherds of the Infernal Affairs trilogy, actors Tony Leung and Andy Lau take center stage from a script by Chong which sees Leung take on the role of Henry Ching (Tony Leung), struggling to find decent work until he links up with real estate developer K.K. Tsang. As the film tells it, their friendship marks the early embers that ignite the spark […]
Born To Fly is now available on Blu-Ray and Digitial in the UK from Trinity CineAsia. Aiming as high as Hollywood when it comes to production quality was definitely on the itinerary for director Liu Xiaoshi, as he neared completion on most recent aviation thriller, Born To Fly. The film was reportedly shelved for over three months to allow time for post production to improve on the visual effects according to a statement from Alibaba Pictures and Bona Film Group, releasing about a month prior to Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick overseas. This was mainly what sat with me going into Born To Fly as this, my second viewing experience with a cast led by actor Wang Yibo, who was terrific in Cheng Er’s seething WWII spy drama, Hidden Blade. The special effects weren’t mainly a singular issue for me either. Patriotic cinema in China existed long before anyone in my […]

It’s been a while since I’ve seen Frant Gwo’s ambitious hit sci-fi The Wandering Earth or its hit follow-up The Wandering Earth II so I think a rewatch of either or one of those may be in order. The latter is certainly relevant as audiences keen on owning a copy on disc may now do so through Digital, DVD and Blu-Ray on October 30, followed by a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook from Trinity CineAsia on December 11. Boasting incredible and epic visuals, this stunning interstellar blockbuster is a fresh prequel to one of the highest grossing films of all time, a $700m box office success, and Netflix global smash hit. Based on the popular novella by science fiction author Liu Cixin, The Wandering Earth II is a true blockbuster, directed by Frant Gwo (The Sacrifice) and starring Andy Lau (House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs) and Wu Jing […]
Folks in the UK and Ireland can now check out The Wandering Earth II in theaters from Trinity CineAsia. My review is here for anyone curious on my thoughts following its release here in the states earlier from Well Go USA, but the film has Andy Lau (House of Flying Daggers, Infernal Affairs) and Wu Jing (The Battle at Lake Changjin, Wolf Warrior) heading up the film’s cast, a wholly bankable duo that should get some butts in seats. In the near future, the sun is rapidly expanding and will engulf the earth within 100 years. To ensure the survival of humankind, nations join hands to form an unprecedented, ambitious global project to build powerful engines on the earth’s surface and propel the planet away from impending doom. Meanwhile, protests have broken out to demand the restart of the controversial Digital Life Project, which digitalises human beings after they have […]

The concept of watching three hour movies is nothing new. All the same however, neither is the shared sentiment of arduously watching a movie with such an extenuating runtime, although whatever the case may be, a film like The Battle At Lake Changjin is just the kind of film you would expect to see have three major directors on board. The Chen Kaige/Tsui Hark/Dante Lam-helmed Korean War period epic immerses moviegoers into this latest chapter from world history, one that’s become a major global box office hit as the most expensive mainland-produced Chinese film. Its ceremony hasn’t been without its share of disaccord, however, in the wake of dissenting opinions and criticism regarding historical accuracies and brouhaha over its inherently propagandistic overtones and nature. Do with those aspects what you will, regardless of your culture or creed. The Battle Of Lake Changjin certainly lends quite the bang for the box […]
If you run with the Asian film fandom, there’s a good chance you stumbled upon social media posts celebrating the recent successes of director Yoon Jae-keun in the wake of his latest film, Spiritwalker. Starring Yoon Kye-sang as a conciousness sauntering, adrift from his body with no memory and surrounded by enemies looking to cover-up their tracks for some seedy underworld types, our hero is forced to switch a limited number of hosts every twelve hours while trailing a woman in danger, and pieceing together the answers he needs in order to expose the truth. Spiritwalker caught my attention especially several years after Yoon landed on my radar during Netflix’s run of 2015 drama, Last. I honestly don’t remember if wrote anything about it in one of my socials, but the show definitely put me on track to becoming part of the K-drama audience. Much of that credit goes to […]
Following news broken earlier this month with Well Go USA Entertainment’s premium Asian film streamer, Hi-YAH! set to stream the hit South Korean sci-fi thriller, Spiritwalker, City On Fire‘s continued coverage notes the official US release date is finally set for April 12 on Blu-Ray and DVD from Well Go USA accordingly. That news now brings us overseas tor an official announcement as folks living in the UK can expect a release of their own beginning March 31 on Digital from Trinity CineAsia. The film previously had its London premiere at last year’s London East Asian Film Festival following its exclusive, in-person world premiere at the New York Asian Festival where it scored director Yoon Jae-keun the Daniel A. Craft Award for Excellence In Action Cinema, a Jury award the festival launched in 2013, and has given to such recipients as actress Veronica Ngo (Furie), posthumosly to late stunt professional […]
Say what you will of Andy Lau, but the man’s output has been pretty damn noticeable in the last several years, including a sequel to his 2017 thriller, Shock Wave, now guaranteed a summer rollout in the UK. Joining actor Sean Lau (Call of Heroes), Ni Ni (The Flowers of War) and Philip Keung (Sheep Without a Shepherd), Yau’s 2020 follow-up, Shock Wave: Hong Kong Destruction, is billed as “a must-see blockbuster full of twists, turns and explosive action from start to finish.” Trinity CineAsia is proudly premiering the film on Friday via Chinese Cinema Season, with releases on Blu-ray & DVD from June 7, and on Digital beginning June 14. After suffering life changing injuries in the line of duty, bomb disposal officer Poon Shing Fung (Andy Lau, Infernal Affairs, House of Flying Daggers) turns his back on the police. But when a devastating series of bombings sweep Hong Kong, the […]
