FIVE-A-DAY ROUND-UP VIII: Blood Hunters, The Gate, Black Site, Insight, Vengeance

It took a while to get good grip on what was happening with director, actor and martial artist Vincent Soberano with Blood Hunters: Rise Of The Hybrids. At long last however, Soberano has affirmed his stake in cinema with at least one other project along the way while in the meantime, the aforementioned new action horror already has a first teaser trailer sampling a bit of the narrative inspired by Filipino folklore. Soberano is joined by Sarah Chang, Monsour Del Rosario and Mayling Ng for the story of a tactical unit set to hunt down the Queen of the Aswang. VENGEANCE Now Filming In London With Stu Bennett And Gary Daniels

Before we catch outgoing WWE wrestler, actor Stu Bennett in action for James Nunn’s Eliminators with Scott Adkins, pan over momentarily to filmmaker Ross Boyask who has made a name for himself among cult fans of the martial arts genre. UK titles like Left For Dead and Warrioress come to mind with the hopeful prospects of a sequel for the 2016 Mike Moeller action thriller, One Million Klicks. For now though, we bring our attention to Boyask’s latest prospect, formerly titled “The Executioner” and now iterated as the new movie Vengeance which began filming this week in London. Martial arts star Gary Daniels (Bloodmoon, Recoil, Tekken) is also starring with Diane Shorthouse and John Adams producing. It was back in 2014 that we first caught wind of filmmaker Tom Wadlow as his then-developing survival thriller, Rat Catcher, was taking shape. The project remains shelved at the moment following its crowdfunding efforts at the time, while now we look toward his next effort that puts him back in the director’s chair for something currently active for completion later this year. The project in question is Vengeance with actor Sukie Ghajminger (Elshera) leading the way as an unrelenting husband out for answers, and a body count, following the brutal kidnapping of his wife. The first trailer has been online since February and now we have a poster with new artwork to present the project in its current vision, and it looks like an appealing one. So I pretty much spent my weekend doubling down on a serious Netflix binge. It was a necessary evil though, so I’m sure it’ll benefit me sometime in the not-too-distant future after this. In the meantime, I’ve gotten a few goodies together for this week’s Hit List which I’ve just edited at the last minute for your viewing pleasure. Alex Vu gets things started with his newest stunt reel followed by Linda Jewell, Tarah Paige, Stephen Bralver, Sari Sabella and Vanessa Motta. The last reel of the playlist continues what I believe is the on-going case for why exactly actor, martial artist and stuntman Eric Jacobus is the go-to guy to direct the action for the upcoming Tekken film. He’s demonstrated his prowess for at least two characters before this, including Hwoarang and Lei Wulong, and now he’s back as the late Chris Farley-inspired Tekken franchise character, Bobby. 'Wolves' Helmers To Exact VENGEANCE For Sony

As certain as we are that movie remakes are not going away anytime soon, Israeli filmmakers Navot Papushado and Aharon Keshales are re-emerging once again to verify that fact. The two received notable praise from moviegoers and the press as they toured the festival circuit last year with their latest murder mystery interrogation thriller, Big Bad Wolves. The film eventually earned its share of accolades last year with mostly positive reviews before releasing earlier in North America courtesy of Magnet Releasing. Well, it appears Papushado and Keshales clearly presented just the kind of tone and vision that could appeal to a broader audience. Part of that audience includes folks over in Australia where at least one filmmaker is determined to make a martial arts film for its deserving fanbase. That filmmaker’s name is Cameron Miller, and he and his cast and crew are assembling a new martial arts action revenge drama titled, My Brother’s Rage, with fellow lead actor Zane Dirani who can be seen beasting out some sick training in a new Indiegogo campaign video for the film, now aiming to help fund some of the film’s essentials, including stunts, on-set effects and make-up and fake blood to enhance the action.
