Life After Fighting is now available in select theaters and on digital from Vertical Entertainment 5.5 min. read Small scale, independent martial arts action movies are at the heart of what I cover on this platform. It takes a lot of effort to make these kinds of films happen, and in doing so, it also takes a great deal of talent and creative moxie to not only make these movies, but to make them fantastic, and memorable. I’m pretty picky about these movies too, having come up from supporting a number of indie action stunt teams in the last twenty years, and subsequently cutting my teeth as a film critic on both sides of the scrutiny fence. As such, I’m not inflexible as a fan of the genre, but I know what I want, and equally, what I don’t want. This was still the case last year when actor and […]

Nearly a decade since launching his feature debut efforts leading up to Kill Order (2017), James Mark has been gradually pursuing next phase of his career in entertainment, sharing in the decades-old legacy of stunt professionals staking their claim in the director’s chair. For this, the prospective lead debut performance of his younger brother, Chris Mark, in their freshman feature continued the trend in just a few years, albeit somewhat quietly with the arrival of a follow-up story that hereto invites actress Alanna Bale to join the elder Mark’s burgeoning indpendent action sci-fi universe with Enhanced. It’s important, though, to mind the events of the first film as its sequel introduces new characters into the mix – its milleu, set in a world where former and current “subjects” of a government experiment, including Anna (Bale), are living lives as normally as possible, some even off the grid in hopes of […]

Stamped as Mark’s third directorial offering, Enhanced ultimately sees Mark’s brother, actor and industry stunt performer Chris Mark (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, The Boys, October Faction) make his return to the front of the lens following his starring debut in Kill Order. That film saw the younger Mark in the role of David, a high school student battling bouts of mania and torment connected to mysterious superhuman abilities that awaken when an armed tactical squad raids his classroom.
