Disney Takes To Task For A Live-Action MULAN Film!

There should be no shortage of US/Chinese co-productions these days with the longstanding popularity of Asian film lore also a factor. If anything, there’s even more potential than before to take what once might have been standalone films and turn them into sprawling 3.4-part serial movie epics similar to female-centric YA actioners like Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games and The Divergent Series franchises to name a few. In the last 24 hours, all news on Star Wars got epic. Galactically epic. Franchise father, filmmaker and sci-fi auteur George Lucas’s original six-film canon (1977-2005), paved the way for a lot of potential stories that panned out in the form of books, video games and other TV series that would collectively be known as the “Expanded Universe” or EU. In light of all this, Lucasfilm and Disney officially put the word out on Friday that they have launched a new creative team that will not only oversee all forms of near-limitless storytelling and media moving forward (which will be non-canonical to the current six-film canon), but will preserve the EU as it continues to flourish in the years to come with a variety of expansive Star Wars content. As if Marvel did not have enough on its hands with its cinematic universe already in play, in addition to spanning the current Spider-Man film franchise with TASM 1 and 2 helmer Marc Webb already on board for part three with other directors attached to spin-offs, it’s pretty clear they’re not done blowing minds just yet.
