Brad Curran at Kung Fu Kingdom gained an ample opportunity to discuss some career details with stunt coordinator Garrett Warren (Here Comes The Boom, Logan, Alita: Battle Angel). One of those details includes directing Mortal Kombat Legacy Season 3, following the success of the first two seasons from Warner Bros. and Machima. “I loved working on ‘Mortal Kombat‘.” said Warren. “It was a real passion project for the director, Kevin Tancharoen, and even though it didn’t have a huge budget, he had this really grand vision for what he wanted the show to be, and he put every idea in his head into it.” At the 4th Annual Streamy Awards, second season won Best Choreography for Warren and fight choreographer Larnell Stovall, the latter who was also a hefty proponent on the feature film’s development since collaborating with Tancharoen on the 7-minute 2010 proof of concept, Mortal Kombat Rebirth. Posterity […]
All it seems we have now is time with Warner Bros. as fans of all things DC await further notification on the studio’s long (and often quietly) talked-about plans to reboot its DC Comics-based cinematic universe. For now, the banner is playing in a few universes with at least one character sharing her way in from Suicide Squad with Margot Robbie now staking her claim in Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn). Cathy Yan is directing from a script by Christina Hodson, and previous reports have all but outlined our primary headliners Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary. Others include Rosie Perez in the role of Renee Montoya, while Ewan McGregor is set to reign as the villain, Black Mask. As of Tuesday however, that roster grew by one with the addition of Chris Messina (Sharp Objects, Argo, The Newsroom) […]
Those with access to an anime platform can still stream the heck out of the hit anime series, Attack On Titan. I still have yet to catch the new season and I’ll likely work on that during the holidays, while it’s still worth noting that roughly a year since news of a live-action film development at Warner Bros. gave some of us whiplash, it appears all has been inked and rendered official. For this, Variety has it on good terms that Andy Muschietti, who topped the box office last year with It and is currently helming the horror sequel, will direct a new take on the property. The new move by Warner Bros. in finalizing its deal with Kodansha will mark the latest effort to bring the anime to a live-action template for the big screen following VFX wizard Higuchi Shinji’s 2015 two-parter from Toho. Mangaka Isayama Hajime bred the […]
A local release date is still in the works for Jiang Wen’s new thriller, Hidden Man. In the meantime, news out of Cannes has it on good terms that Warner Bros. is investing in the pic as co-producer through its deal with its conjoined venture with CMC Capital Holdings, Flagship Entertainment. The film loosely takes its cues from a wuxia novel by Zhang Beihai that will follow suit with Wen’s famed Bullets trilogy, telling of a swordsman who returns home as a spy to solve a five-year old murder case. The celebrated filmmaker and Rogue One co-star’s return to the helm is said to be a film festival prospect later this year upon its summer release in China. Wen is joined by wife and actress Zhou Yun, as well as The Final Master star Liao Fan and Rise Of The Legend and Operation Mekong star Eddie Peng and The Hidden […]
Denis Villeneuve’s thrilling delivery with Blade Runner 2049 is the precedent reportedly being set for Warner Bros.’s current push to revive 1976 sci-fi classic, Logan’s Run. Word from Deadline on Friday writes, The Town scribe Peter Craig is being eyed to pen the script for Fox’s noted X-Men film saga producer Simon Kinberg to direct. Set in an idyllic 23rd century, actor Michael York starred as Logan 5, a Sandman embedded in an agency established to hunt down “Runners” against society’s established order of pleasureable life until death at thirty. When Logan is assigned to track down a secret safe haven for Runners, he learns his own life clock was pushed forward by four years, forcing him to become a runner himself. David Zelag Goodman adapted the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson for director Michael Anderson. The film eventually landed a short-lived television series prior […]
Just short of two years since we last heard on anything pertaining to a Lobo adaptation, trades are now reporting that Michael Bay is being sought after by Warner Bros. to direct the film. Bay, best known for his riduculous, explody and destructive approach to blockbusters since the 90s and to date with all things Transformers at Paramount, will meet once more with Warner Bros. pending script rewrites by Jason Fuchs since his attachment in Spring of 2016. A big-screen adaptation of the long-running DC property has been in the works since around 2009 while the character itself has already made the rounds in comic books and animated properties. Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen launched the character in 1983, telling of a Czarnian alien bounty hunter and often villian who re-emerged as an anti-hero biker in the 1990s. San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton was last tapped to direct and his since […]
Say what you will of David Ayer’s 2016 hit, Suicide Squad. Critiques notwithstanding, that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment managed to snag up to $746 million dollars in global gross spoke only to its sequel potential moving forward while hopefully the studio gets its ducks in a row with its own line-up of DC adaptations leading up to Justice League in November and thereafter. This brings questions regarding who will direct, which, in turn, now reveals Deadline‘s latest report sharing news of Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor who will instead helm the brewing sequel. O’Connor’s name is one of several that have circulated in the past year, particularly Ayer who left the sequel in July prior to Jaume Collet-Serra turning it down. Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto are expected to reprise their roles as Deadshot, Harley Quinn and Joker. Plot details and specifics aren’t yet known while a sequel […]
It hadn’t hardly been a week following the latest announcement of a Joker origin film now in the works at Warner Bros. with Todd Phillips directing. Nevertheless, that’s not stopping the studio from moving in on the popular DC Comics property with another addition to the DCEU that brings Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto and Margot Robbie back together on the big screen. Focus and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot helmers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are tapped to direct the film which THR reports with a mix of inside sources describing it both “a criminal love story” and “an insane and twisted love story. When Harry Met Sally on benzedrine.”. Leto is in final negotiations with the studio as is Robbie who herself has been attached as the studio’s favorite fan pick following her portrayal of the iconic villainess whose romantic comic book history with Batman’s longstanding archnemesis dates back to the early 1990s. […]
Making a name for himself with low-budget horror thrillers You’re Next, A Horrible Way To Die, and The Guest, Adam Wingard has closed a deal with Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to direct the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong for a May 22, 2020 release date. Legendary and Warner have teamed up to revive the classic monster universe. Starting with the 2014 release of Godzilla, it culminated with the phenomenal success of Kong: Skull Island earlier this year (which has grossed $565 million, globally) that a sequel, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, and Millie Bobby Brown, is currently in production. Wingard’s directorial reboot of Blair Witch last year was made for $5 million and had a box office run of $45.2 million. Not too shabby for a slightly entertaining horror flick that has lost a lot of it’s audience and charm. The writers that Legendary has put together to author […]
It’s been fourteen years since The Matrix trilogy last left moviegoing fans with a groundbreaking, epic cyberpunk sci-fi action saga that broke the mold in more ways than several. Earning more than $1.6 billion dollars globally between all three films and rounded out with a series of spin-off shortfilms, cut scenes and animated properties, the franchise has been long rumored for a remake or a continuation in some capacity. Even fake trailers over the years had people convinced, but now we have reporting from THR that details the specifics of recent efforts to reboot the franchise at Warner Bros. with the studio possibly eyeing actor Michael B. Jordan for a role. The report also cites that Zak Penn, who bares story and screenwriting credits on many a Marvel comic book film as well as films like Behind Enemy Lines and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One adaptation, is being circled to […]
Actress Millie Bobby Brown was a darling to see in Netflix’s Golden Globe® nominated series, Stranger Things. Time will tell how that pans out while we now have breaking news confirming her attachment to the forthcoming production of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. Legendary has officially closed a deal for the actress now first in a pending cast list for the film following Rogue One: A Star Wars Story helmer Gareth Edwards’s 2014 movie. Krampus helmer Michael Dougherty is set to direct as of several days ago following reports late last year of his attachment to the script he’s written with Zach Shields. A few years in the making, the film marks the latest foray for Legendary and Warner Bros. in an effort toward a cinematic universe that will include the March 10, 2017 release of Kong: Skull Island, and culminate in the release of Godzilla vs. Kong on May […]
Well, that was fast. It looks as if yesterday’s reporting from Deadline was inaccurate on Warner Bros. regarding adapting Attack On Titan, according to representatives on behalf of Kodansha as reported by Yahoo! Japan. Initially, Deadline’s piece stated that the studio was involved in negotiations for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them helmer David Heyman to direct. I suppose the good news here is that Yahoo! Japan’s report, as cited by Crunchyroll, suggests that several talks are underway. Nevertheless, it could be a case of the news being too soon aside from just being false if there are talks. At any rate, it appears this latest buzz just got cold water thrown on it. Read yesterday’s piece here to catch up on what’s what.
Isayama Hajime’s popular 2009 manga, Attack On Titan, continues to be a hallmark of fandom for many an otaku following its success as a 2013 animated series with a second season on deck for this April. The live-action films were an entertaining feat as well – depending on who you ask, that is, even as some elements and assets were ultimately altered and changed to befit the production led by VFX wiz, Higuchi Shinji. That said, one might have wondered if this would turn out to be yet another Hollywood property, and lo and behold, it’s Deadline with the exclusive word that Warner Bros. is looking toward the rights with an eye on Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them helmer David Heyman to direct. If all goes well, it will he Heyman in the director’s chair, thus adapting the tale of a brother and sister forged […]
Did you ever catch director Ben Wheatley’s 2015 thriller, High Rise or notably the latest trailer for rousing crime flick, Free Fire? If not, take a gander at either and you might understand why it appears both Wheatley and High Rise star Tom Hiddleston are the current frontrunners for a new property at Warner Bros. As Deadline reported on Monday, the studio is in talks to acquire, the Dark Horse Comics publication, Hard Boiled, with the hopes of launching a co-production with Solipsist Films and Hollywood Gang. Created by Frank Miller and Geoff Darrow in 1990, the graphic novel miniseries focused on Carl Seltz, an insurance investigator who discovers he is a homicidal cyborg tax collector and ultimately robotkind’s last hope against programmed oppresion. Stephen L’Heureux, Bernie Goldmann and Gianni Nunnari are the named producers on the project should things follow suit. Details remain pending as nothing is finalized […]

New Line Cinema Beware… I cuss a little bit here… Let me start off by telling you to forget what you think you probably already know or may have heard about Mortal Kombat regarding anything webseries or film. Most of the internet shit itself over a stupid fancast article that went viral citing how “they just cast the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie” or some dumb piece of shit headline like that. Shit like that pisses me off because it signifies how stupidhappy fans get over fake news – Even more so with respect to all things Mortal Kombat which is one film franchise I’ve been dying to see all the way through since it became a hit on the big screen in 1995 sans Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. No, we never saw a third occur as much as it was hyped about at the time and by 2010, all hope was […]
The last there was of a big screen adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic French swashbuckler, The Count Of Monte Cristo – at least I know of, was in 2002 with Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce from Touchstone. It was pretty terrific in large part, save for the final act which I thought was a bit abrupt, and with a great take on the story that kept me watching. That very story is set in the early 1800’s and so sixteen years since then, we now have news of a new iteration in development now at Warner Bros. according to a report at Deadline. Safehouse Pictures’ own Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold are producing from a script to be written by WGN series Underground creator Joe Polaski that will place the story of Edmond Dantès and Fernand Mondego in a modern-day criminal underworld setting with The Signal helmer William Eubank directing. […]
