THE GREAT WAR OF ARCHIMEDES: The Tides Of War Rise In The First Official Teaser

Mita Norifusa’s 2015 Weekly Young Magazine publication is now the subject of Returner, Parasyte and Parasyte 2 helmer Yamazaki Takashi’s newest epic, The Great War Of Archemides. The first official teaser is up and running host to a sampler highlighting actor Suda Masaki (Gintama, Wilderness), a math prodigy who, along with a young naval officer, uncovers a conspiracy regarding the construction of Japanese warships before the onset of World War 2. We also have our first official poster making the rounds courtesy of Toho who will be releasing the film in Japan on July 26. Also starring are actress Hamabe Minami, and actors Emoto Tasuku Emoto and Kobayashi Katsuya, with an ensemble of thesps listing actors Tachi Hiroshi, Konihata Fumiyo, Kunimura Jun, Hashizume Isao and Tanaka Min.

Yamazaki Takashi (Parasyte 1 & 2, Eternal Zero, Returner) is just about done filming his next epic, The Great War Of Archimedes. The new film is based on Mita Norifusa’s 2015 manga publication, set in the 1930s as the Imperial Japanese Navy undergoes plans to build the world’s biggest and most powerful battleship, the Yamato. Actor Suda Masaki fronts the cast thusfar as mathematical genius, Kai, brought aboard at the behest of an eager admiral, only to uncover discrepancies in the cost of its construction, as well as another potential conspiracy. Suda’s most recent credits include starring in Fukuda Yuichi’s Gintama franchise, Kishi Yoshiyuki’s two-part boxing drama, Wilderness, and Nagai Akira’s Teiichi: Battle of Supreme High. Further details remain pending ahead of the film’s expected release next summer.

Yamazaki Takashi immediately became a favorite of mine upon with his 2002 sophomore outing, hit sci-fi action thriller, Returner. Since then, he’s built the brunt of his work on his bolstering ability to engage some purely epic storytelling with ample results on projects like Parasyte: Part 1 and Part 2 as well as sprawling war drama, The Eternal Zero, and his newest, Destiny: Kamakura Story, aims to further continue the trend. Isshiki Masakazu, a mystery writer living in Kamakura who is also a skilled detective. Together with his wife Akiko, he interacts with the demons, spirits, gods, buddhas, and aliens of Kamakura.
