The Casting Buzz Continues For The MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot

Between the production of director Jon M. Chu‘s latest film, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and its upcoming release, word has stirred about on the internet regarding the filmmaker’s participation in the potential reboot for Masters Of The Universe, the 1987 science fiction fantasy action adventure feature film based on the successful toy and animated television series.

Last summer, Huffington Post writer Mike Ryan offered his own fancast, and even action superstar Dolph Lundgren was eager to add his opinion, from what he would like to play to even suggesting Channing Tatum or Chris Hemsworth would make good candidates to inherit the lead role of He-Man. A few months after, the actor best known for playing the Marvel comic book superhero, Thor, declined to share interest, so as to avoid typecasting.

Today, ComingSoon.Net now reports via SuperheroHype that Chu has spoken on who he wants to see in the film:

“I don’t know if Dolph Lundgren is around or what he’s doing but, yeah, I think that could be some fun if we could find a way. I hope he still has the loin cloth and the long hair and everything.”

This either may or may not mean Chu wants Lundgren back in as the lead, or this could be just a ruse to keep Lundgren fans hyped for a film that sounds like it is definitely happening. Personally, I’m thinking it’s ruse, and a fresh face is bound to star. Question now is, who to cast?

Currently, Lundgren has a slew of films he is finished and working on, including Battle Of The Dammed and one other that may very well share him some space on the screen with Thai action star Tony Jaa. Meanwhile, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is slated for worldwide release on March 28, and the first trailer for the December release of Thor: The Dark World, will
premiere with the theatrical release of Iron Man 3 this coming May.
