Martial arts action fans are just a day away from the digital and VOD release of Kenji Tanigaki’s latest explosive action adventure, The Furious, from Lionsgate. The movie features an ensemble cast led by Xie Miao, Joe Taslim and Yang Enyou, from a script by Mak Tin-Shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan-Sin and Frank Hui.
After the daughter of Wang Wei (Xie Miao) is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out on a rampage to find her himself. His only ally is Navin (Joe Taslim) — a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly fights against the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.
Lionsgate presents, an Edko Films and Zhejiang Hengdian Film production, in association with XYZ Films.
Also starring are Joey Iwanaga and Yayan Ruhian, with Brian Le, Jeeja Yanin, Sahajak Boonthanakit, Manatsanun Phanlerdwongsakul, Guo Junqing, and Winai Wiangyangkung.
Ask close to anyone you know within any proximity of this film and they will tell you the same as most other, regaling of the film’s impact as the best martial arts movie of the year. That case was made in preface late last year as the film took to the festivals following its World Premiere in Toronto, long prior to sequel prospects recently made public by producer/exec producer Bill Kong. Topped off with the praise and prospective reception the film garnered Tanigaki with his name attached to a few more projects since then, and with action sequences by none other than Kensuke Sonomura, and you have all the reason in the world to be curious about this movie and the future it continues to nourish with momemtum.
Point in fact, this movie is such a hit that it only needed one trailer for its U.S. recognition. I’m leaving it here in case you’re entirely new to it, but do pass it onto the friend in your life who NEEDS TO SEE THIS MOVIE ASAP. Check it out below, and if you’re game, my review from screening The Furious in April can be read here.
