Several new posters and a new trailer are out for The Goldfinger, the newest crime thriller from Overheard trilogy director Felix Chong and featuring Tony Leung and Andy Lau. AMTD is partnering with distributors to shepherd the film’s release globally on December 30, rejoining Leung and Lau since garnering acclaim years ago on Andrew Lau and Alan Mak’s hit film, Infernal Affairs – also co-penned by Chong.
Set in the 1980s, the film depicts cut-throat machinations between Hong Kong’s jostling business elites amidst the backdrop of the tail end of British colonial rule. It tells the story of the rise and bust of a fictional Hong Kong company called Jiali Group, following the travails of its chairman Cheng Yiyan through 15 years of investigations by the Independent Commission Against Corruption as murders are committed, billions in market value evaporate and millions are spent on litigation fees.
The Goldfinger also marks another reunion for AMTD who’ve also partnered on a trio of recent Lau-starrers, including Shock Wave 2, Moscow Mission, and The Trading Floor. The film also stars Simon Yam, Alex Fong, Charlene Choi and Carlos Chan.
Trinity CineAsia is rolling out new assets of its own as well for the film, with previews on the aforementioned date followed by its release in the UK and Ireland on January 5. Check out their trailer!
