No stranger to whipping up propulsive crime flicks as cinematographer on a number of titles in his near two-decade long career in film, the celebrated director of Chasing The Dragon and Chasing The Dragon 2, Jason Kwan, is back for another round with I Did It My Way, at long last releasing an official trailer to whet fans’ appetites. The film stars Gordon Lam, Andy Lau and Eddie Peng in the story of an undercover cop long entrenched in a drug boss’s organization as he learns both he and his family might be in danger.
Several new posters and a new trailer are out for The Goldfinger, the newest crime thriller from Overheard trilogy director Felix Chong and featuring Tony Leung and Andy Lau. AMTD is partnering with distributors to shepherd the film’s release globally on December 30, rejoining Leung and Lau since garnering acclaim years ago on Andrew Lau and Alan Mak’s hit film, Infernal Affairs – also co-penned by Chong.
Emperor Motion Pictures revealed the start of production for The Unleashed Blaze, reportedly a thematic sequel to the late Benny Chan’s Raging Fire which starred Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse. Derek Kwok (Gallants, Full Strike) is directing the film which reunites Andy Lau and Nicholas Tse who previously starred together in the aforementioned Chan’s 2011 martial arts epic, Shaolin.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Frant Gwo’s ambitious hit sci-fi The Wandering Earth or its hit follow-up The Wandering Earth II so I think a rewatch of either or one of those may be in order. The latter is certainly relevant as audiences keen on owning a copy on disc may now do so through Digital, DVD and Blu-Ray on October 30, followed by a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook from Trinity CineAsia on December 11.
CMC Pictures is taking the reigns with select releases in multiple territories for action adventure, Moscow Mission. Rejoiing screen leads Andy Lau and Zhang Hanyu since Feng Xiaogang’s A World Without Thieves and Zhang Yimou’s The Great Wall, director Herman Yau’s latest is based on a true story set in 1993, and centers on a pair of Chinese detectives on a mission to hunt down ruthless robbers plaguing the trans-Siberian railway with violence and chaos.
Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Andy Lau and Charlene Choi lead the way for writer and director Felix Chong’s new crime drama, The Goldfinger. Emperor Motion Pictures is out with an official trailer and poster as of Thursday along with a release date in China and Singapore on December 30.
Director Jacky Ko’s (p.k.a. Ke Youqian) new high-speed thriller is on track for release on April 27 with Taiwanese flick, Red Line. The film’s campaign picked up quite a bit in the past week with an official poster as well as stills featuring actor and recording artist Eddie Chen (a.k.a. E•SO), and a roster that now makes official the addition of actor Andy Lau in a key role.
The Wandering Earth 2 is now playing in U.S. theaters from Well Go USA Entertainment. The film will open in UK and Irish cinemas beginning January 27 from Trinity CineAsia.
Well Go USA is taking the reins this week with the first title on its 2023 roster, The Wandering Earth 2. The company announced its acquisition of the film a few days ago via Instagram with a teaser poster, launching a brand new campaign that now has its first official trailer dating its January 22 release which which you can view below, just beneath the company’s description.
It continues to be a blaring mystery how actor Wu Jing will somehow manage to reappear in The Wandering Earth 2, director Frant Gwo’s sequel to his blockbuster 2019 adaptation of Liu Cixin’s novel. In the meantime, moviegoers in China are already poised for its Chinese New Year relaase on January 22, will folks in North America can now rest its sights on Well Go USA who’ve acquired the pic, as announced via Instagram in the post below:
Filmmaker Herman Yau returning to the director’s chair for a sequel to his 2017 thriller, Shock Wave, was the smart thing to do, particularly if the intent was to do something different with the same actor getting top billing. For fans of actor Andy Lau in this case, there shouldn’t be too many complaints – by the time he shot this movie, he’d been an entertainer for close to two-thirds of his life, and at 59 years young, he’s still killin’ it.
Finally slating a December release, Shock Wave 2 will mark the latest pairing for respective actor/director duo Andy Lau and Herman Yau who worked together on the inaugural 2017 crime thriller, which boasts earnings of up to $63 million dollars at the China box office.
Director Herman Yau clearly has every intention to turn the page from his 2017 hostage thriller, Shock Wave. With its sequel now in route, the first official trailer is making the rounds and you can bet what you see happens to actor Andy Lau’s character is only a smidget of the upheaval and danger that awaits.
