As I write this, I find myself in the midst of what might as well be a Monday morning considering how suddenly busy I am…
Such is life. Alas, let’s get to it! Kicking off this week’s installment of The Hit List is another round of rousing stunt performance and demo reels listing Anna Yosin, Marques Zaror Archie, Claire Catharine Temple, Cole Sanssoucie, Michelle Fisichella, Vali Raileanu, April Taft, Sebastian Fouassier, Sadiqua Bynum, Younes Boutaine, Rebecca Ferguson, Oleg Gostik, India King, Will Greenburg, Bronte Coluccio, Entony Ruscetta, Lauren Mary Kim, David Cheung, Amy Sturdivant, Adam Chase and Michel Quach.
I have to say, out of all the playlists I put together for these, I always get a kick out of alternating between genders – I just love when there’s a balance of talent in equal numbers. Enjoy!
There are at least two projects on deck this week to discuss, including the latest poster premiere for Michael S. Moore’s new shortfilm, El Gato Negro: Prey. Bobby Hernandez performs the title role inspired by creator Richard Dominguez’s premiere print in 1993 which gained populaity until its end in 1996.
Moore just held a cast and crew screening over the weekend prior to when debuting the poster, hailing the Moore’s inaugural entry for Kiai-Kick Films, the titular indie film shingle of his branded film blog.
Dry Land Swim is also on hand this week from acting/directing cohorts Ronny Vega and Khalil Barnett. Their new proof-of-concept takes loosely from their UASE 2017 award-winner, Santos, delving into an action sci-fi that sees a trio of enigmatic, adversarial vigilantes joining forces to prevent a deadly prophecy foretold by an ancient, obscure tale of legend.
I’m told that a trailer is coming with post-production set to arrive as soon as the the middle of September in which fanpage on social media should arise as well. Until then, we do have recent set B/W photos from behind the scenes of Dry Land Swim worth taking a peek at.
First up is actor Brennan Mejia, formerly of Power Rangers: Dino Charge who went toe-to-toe with stunt performer Omar Zaki in a video I just caught onto by way of Mejia’s YouTube channel. Mejia himself is absolutely impressive on screen and I’m hard-pressed to believe anyone in their right mind who’s seen this guy move wouldn’t want him remaining in the spotlight a little longer. Doing what he does, he clearly does it awesomely.
The same goes for Angela Lynn who appears next in Brawl with E. Calvin Ahn and Jared Blake DiCroce, M1 Fight Design with Alex Stines and Ken Do, and an exclusive practice action piece courtesy of Pat King who performs opposite Samuel J. Lee, along with Game Over featuring Toni Jean Erasmus and Stuart Williamson, ninja-clad Chris Quan Yong battling costumed demons and monsters alike in DevolverDigital’s Shinobi No Kikan (The Messenger) for its Nintendo Switch release, Art School Dropouts’ Stephanie Pham and Angela Jordan shooting it out John Woo-style in Splash, and Devin Graham’s Amazon-sponsored first-person parkour thrills promoting Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime.
Last and far from least is something less simplistic in nature, three years in the making and finished by the director’s sixteenth birthday with the help of the St. Louis film community. Enter Gabe Sheets’ latest, Fugue, taking cues from psychiatry and stirring up a harrowing, whirlwind half-hour crime thriller in which a man on the run (Scott Michael Dunn) loses his memory after a violent accident.
I thought this was a fun piece of work, and so kudos to Sheets and his crew for granting us netizens this little jewel.
I might take off next week for a small breather to try and get some articles done, but we’ll see how this plays out by ear.
