Yep, you guessed it. Director Soi Cheang’s forthcoming fantasy sequel, The Monkey King 2 3D, first on the list and is on par for simultaneous Spring Festival releases in China, as well as 50 cities throughout the world including in the U.K., Canada and the U.S. on February 5. So far, the ad push is a bit paltry but it should pick up soon with the latest promo now available as of several days ago. The first film was a blockbuster hit during the Chinese New Year in 2014 with Donnie Yen starring, despite lackluster responses which continue to linger. We’ll see if this affects the figures early next month but with action star Jackie Chan and The Monkey King 2 co-star Gong Li serving as ambassadors for the platform, it looks like an okay start.
SYNOPSIS:
The White-Bone Demon who desires to eat the flesh of The Monk disguises herself time and again but is detected and seemingly killed by The Monkey King. The Monk is angered by The Monkey King’s reckless slayings and sends him away, not knowing that he will fall prey to the vicious demons.
Actress Li joins lead actor Aaron Kwok in the title role along with Feng Shao Feng, Xiao Shen Yang, Him Law and Kelly Chen among the cast, and featuring Sammo Hung on board as action director. Catch the promo below!
