The New Trailer For ONLY GOD FORGIVES + New Character Poster

I don’t know about the rest of you, but Only God Forgives is looking better and better with every trailer that gets put out. Granted, director Nicolas Winding Refn‘s latest neon-lit Thai-based crime story hasn’t exactly seen the best reviews coming out of Cannes. But honestly, I don’t think a lot of people really care about the filmic critiques involved.

After all, it’s got scenes of Ryan Gosling dragging a guy by his teeth down a hallway, Vithaya Pansringarm playing an outlaw cop with a reputation for owning every sucker with a big-ass sword, and yes, actress Kristen Scott Thomas playing a criminal kingpin lusting for vengeance owning the screen in almost every scene that she’s in like a boss. Plus, you have beautiful actress Yayaying Rhatha Phongam playing Ryan’s love interest, and I’m VERY curious how this will play out in the storyline.
Also, the film is shot in Thailand with some of the most exotic, colorful shots made specific for a noir crime thriller of this kind. So, while some film scholars will look at this and bawk, I’m pretty sure the rest of us will have a good time enjoying this film right down to that pivotal fight scene between Ryan and Vithaya that has our hero’s face looking like it was put through a meat grinder.
Yes, I am seeing this film when it comes out on July 19, 2013, courtesy of Radius/TWC.

Chang allows the father to kill his daughters murderer, then restores order by chopping off the man’s right hand.Julian’s mother Jenna, the head of a powerful criminal organization, arrives in Bangkok to collect her son’s body. She orders Julian to find his killers and raise hell.

Increasingly obsessed with the Angel of Vengeance, Julian challenges him to a boxing match, hoping that by defeating him he might find spiritual release but Chang triumphs. A furious Jenna plots revenge and the stage is set for a bloody journey through betrayal and vengeance towards a final confrontation and the possibility of redemption.
