In an age of revolution, Marie Antoinette and her protector Oscar François de Jarjayes face tough choices as women growing into their distinct roles.
Such is the logline for director Ai Yoshimura’s refurbished take on Netflix animated film, The Rose Of Versailles, which launches April 30 and is produced by MAPPA. The new series is based on the 70s Margaret magazine manga publication out of Shueisha and its subsequent anime series from Tokyo Movie Shinsha at the time. The IP has also extended its shelf life via live stage musicals and even animated spin-offs.

Yoshimura directs from a script by Tomoko Komparu, with character designs by Mariko Oka, and music scoring by Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto.
