The ninth chapter of the Fast saga, F9, arrives this weekend in North America, just as it continues to make a killing with earnings of well over $293 million dollars, internationally. With that, the trajectory is a hopeful one that stands pretty tall for Universal Pictures who have long since plotted a course for there to be a decalogy of films, now with word that the tenth installment, according to franchise star and producer Vin Diesel will shoot the next film in two parts beginning in January.
“I’m doing Fast ten, part one and part two, the finale of the saga in January.” Diesel tells Regal Movies reporter Matthew Hoffman.

The news confirms much of what’s been ado in the extenuating campaign for the ninth film since the pandemic forced theater closings last year just as the film was set to open initially last May. In February 2020, Diesel spoke Total Film about the prospects of a two-parter for the tenth film stating the following:
“I started planning for Fast 10 before we started filming Fast 9. Very much so. The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable. Universal deserves it because of how much they’ve invested in this little saga, and it’d be good to give back to Universal. And for the fans, should Fast 10 parts one and two be the conclusion, it would be nice for this world to continue for generations to come.”
The news also reaffirms and follows suit with what Variety reported last October, notwithstanding further updates pending for franchise spin-offs. Variety reported back then that Justin Lin, who sat in the chair for multiple entries in the saga including F9, will also directed the final two films in the main saga.
F9 sees Diesel back on screen with his loyal crew of badass gearheads and tech wizards, reprising the role of Dominic Toretto, battling opposite the franchise’s newest character addition of Jakob (John Cena), Dom’s long lost brother.
Also returning to the franchise is Charlize Theron as manical tech villainess, Cipher, and Sung Kang in the mysteriously revived role of Han, following the events of the previous films, with Jordanna Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Christopher “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel and Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, Lucas Black and Jason Tobin also star.
