If you followed Hong Kong action in any way shape or form, the No Retreat, No Surrender films spoke to you in ways that delighted and amazed you. The non-linear franchise from directors Corey Yuen and Lucas Lo and producer Keith Standberg made certain to place Hong Kong-stylized martial arts screenfighting on the forefront for Western audiences, creating one of the most memorable bundles of East-meets-West action cinema to hit kiosks for VHS store runts like yours truly.
Nowadays, an independently-crafted version on Blu-Ray is up for pre-order at the Return Of Classics website. The product in question here brings us to the new documentary, The Untold Story of No Retreat, No Surrender. Its production, crowdfunded earlier this year, hails from directors Oliver Harper (Here Comes a New Challenger) and Christopher Stratton (FPS: First Person Shooter), and producer Sean David Lowe (The Last Kumite), with a handy roster of stars from the original 1985 film including Kurt McKinney and J.W. Fails, producers Strandberg and Ng See Yuen, as well as laureates like Scott Adkins and Cynthia Rothrock to name a few.
