Untitled, R-Rated WOLVERINE 3 Commences Filming

In all of 16 years, many of us have grown together with Aussie actor Hugh Jackman as he sliced and diced his way to Marvel fame in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movieverse as Wolverine. Now with two spin-off films under his belt seuging from the current franchise, the latest third film is officially underway ahead of its March 3, 2017 release.

Plot details are nil as usual as it’s early days with cameras now rolling – save for earlier updates on possible story details, but Collider has revealed a few things regarding recent updates on the vision and tone of the film. “…It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie.” says producer Simon Kinberg. “It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

The news comes a little less than a year after Jackman made headlines announcing the film, to be directed by The Wolverine (2013) helmer James Mangold, would be his last portrayal as the longstanding X-Men character, created initially in the 70’s by Roy Thomas, Len Wein and John Romita, Sr.. Later news that followed the theatrical success of Fox’s other Marvel adaptation, Deadpool that the studio was also making its R-rated agenda clear for the film; the studio is also advancing similar efforts for its current feature film development of Boom! Studios property, Irredeemable.
Rounding out the cast are Boyd Holbrook as the main villain, along with Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and E.R. veteran star Eriq Lasalle with the possible addition of X-Men franchise co-star Sir Patrick Stewart. Jackman can also be seen in a glimpse of his iconic role in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse later this month.
