The folks over at UK-based Richwater films issued a press release several days ago ahead of the upcoming UK home release of the new revenge action thriller, Vendetta, starring Danny Dyer. The press release mainly focuses on anti-piracy and the networked stealing of films, a common and growing problem over many years which highly affected many areas of film industry, especially studios who produce smaller budgeted pictures.
Independent production company Richwater Films has issued an anti-piracy poster in the run up to the release of its eagerly anticipated action thriller VENDETTA next week. The striking image, which shows actor Danny Dyer taking aim at illegal downloaders, highlights the very real problems that piracy causes independent film-makers.
VENDETTA producer Jonathan Sothcott commented, “I hate the term piracy as it has a glamorous Errol Flynn/Johnny Depp connotation, which is far removed from the seedy reality. Those who steal – and there’s no other word for it – films are the lowest of the low because, despite what they say, this isn’t a victimless crime. A lot of people work bloody hard on low-budget films like Vendetta and the scum who upload them to the internet through torrent sites and the like are destroying our business to the point where we just won’t be able to make more films unless people respect copyright.”
Richwater Films Marketing Executive Adam Stephen Kelly said, “It is hard enough making independent movies in Britain, but people who pirate them are killing the industry. With worrying statistics showing that only 10% of British films make a profit, it is crucial to support our homegrown cinema by watching British films legally. We hope that our fun poster, which we’re encouraging people to share on Twitter and Facebook, etc, will remind people of this crucial message.”
VENDETTA is available on DVD and Blu-ray on December 23.
