Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead Snow, Dead Snow 2, What Happened To Monday?) will direct Millemium Films action thriller, War Pigs. Nick Ball and John Niven wrote the script stemming from its previous life as The Takedown with production set to comnence in October.
As Mike Fleming Jr. at Deadline noted on Tuesday, Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell will respectively star as The Pastor and Drex – members of a group of disillusioned ex-marines who wage vengeance against the multi-national drug cartel that killed one of their own and made off with millions of dollars in drug money. The film’s previous existence titlted it as The Takedown in the form of a Tarantino-esque thriller according to The Tracking Board in 2014.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce at di Bonaventura Productions, along with Matt Berenson.
Gibson’s next production stop afterward will be WWII action film, Destroyer with Mark Wahlberg, while audiences await his upcoming appearance in Joe Carnahan’s Boss Level. Farrell’s return to the screen will soon be the BFI London Film Festival premiere of director Steve McQueen’s Widows prior to opening on November 16 from 20th Century Fox.
