Variety’s Naman Ramachandran reports that Iko Uwais will star in Silat-fueled action thriller, Warrior, marking the directorial debut of ACS-accredited cinematographer, John Radel. Warrior will serve as the launchpad for a planned SEA genre film slate between Asia Media Alliance Group and Nation Pictures, with a raft of action and horror titles both in the works.
The film follows a former elite Silat practitioner who walks out of prison determined to leave his violent past behind – a resolution that quickly unravels when a Malaysian crime syndicate moves into his neighborhood, seizing control of local streets and going after the people he cares about. Drawn back into the world he tried to escape, he finds himself the sole obstacle between the syndicate and the community it wants to control. The conflict spirals from street-level intimidation into full-scale warfare, played out across Jakarta’s markets, back alleys and rooftops.
Delon Tio is producing Warrior via Nation Pictures alongside Yeti Entertainment’s Erika North and Nick North, and Mike Leeder via Red Packet Media. Uwais will exec produce next to Ryan Santoso via Uwais Pictures label. K-Movie Entertainment will handle the film’s international sales.
Cameras will roll this summer in Indonesia.
Uwais is off to a rocketing start this year having launched Uwais Pictures in 2025 with his directorial debut, Timur, and Sidharta Tata’s Fantastic Fest-selected Ikatan Darah. The Merantau, The Raid franchise and Headshot star is currently tapped to appear in Liam O’Donnell’s Skyline: Warpath in which Radel served as DP, in addition to the pending productions of MRI, Amazon MGM’s Road House 2, and a possible sequel to Ikatan Darah according to past reporting.
