YEAR OF THE RAT Trailer: Two Brothers, One Legacy!
Cyrus Alexander’s feature debut is getting some eyes this year with action drama, Year Of The Rat. The film previously held an event screenibg in New York City alongside Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon, and will next play in a double bill in Atlanta, Georgia next to Scott Sanders’s Black Dynamite, with superstar Michael Jai White in attendance.
In a bid to uphold their family’s legacy, Rashad Jones, a seasoned fighter, takes on the responsibility of training his younger brother Akira for the prestigious tournament known as “Year of the Rat.” As the tournament only takes place every 12 years, their father Malik’s victory in 1984 holds special significance. Together, Rashad and Akira embark on a journey of discipline, determination, and self-discovery, pushing the boundaries of their physical and emotional capabilities in their pursuit of glory and the chance to etch their names into the annals of this revered competition.
Year Of The Rat also got some coverage by Meg Trogolo at Worcester Magazine, who reported back in January that the film was twenty years in the making, and even had a UFC prospect cast for the role before evidently recasting in 2021 when the initial actor dropped out. For this, we get leading man, Detroit-based recording artist Noveliss in his debut acting role alongside actor James Moten-Black who I’ve had an eye on for a while now.
I only found out about this today because the good folks over at 3 Chambers are sharing news about the Double Feature which is being held on August 9 at the Plaza Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. Tickets are available as well, so check out the trailer below and if you’re in the area and have the time and the means, have at it!
