Your Next Viewing: THE MANDALORIAN Is A Welcome Addition to the Star Wars Universe

The Mandalorian: Chapter One
Disney+

Unless you’ve been living under a rock these past few months, you know that Disney has officially launched their own streaming service, DisneyPlus. This service has a huge library including films released from the vault, Marvel movies, nostalgic TV shows and movies (Eek! Boy Meets World, Camp Nowhere!), original shows, and all things Star Wars.

I was able to sit down last night and give DisneyPlus’ original Star Wars series The Mandalorian a try.

What is The Mandalorian? Here’s the official trailer:

The Mandalorian – Official Trailer 2 | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) stars as the title character. The series is set after the fall of the Empire and before the First Order. There is no muss, no fuss, no big set up: viewers are just planted directly into the Star Wars universe, see the Mandalorian pick up a bounty, encase him in carbonite (I want to be able to do that to people!) and move on to his next job. There is a feeling of the familiar (Carl Weathers! Droids! Storm troopers!) and yet the feeling that we are missing something (where is he when he melts down the beskar to make a piece of armor?), but just sit back and enjoy the ride as all should be explained in the following episodes.

I enjoyed this tease. Okay, at forty minutes it is not exactly a tease, but I was so enjoying it that I did not realize how much time had gone by and when I got to the end scene, I wished I could watch the next one immediately.

Unlike Netflix who releases whole seasons at a time, this series will be released one episode at a time through December 27.
