ZIAM Pits Muay Thai Against Zombies In The Official Trailer!
Netflix Thailand is taking the dive into horror with what they’re billing as the branch’s “first action-zombie film” with director Kulp Kaljareuk’s new movie, Ziam. The film has been slowly brewing in the past month or so with stills to tease, and now the official trailer is here showcasing what’s in store with lead actor Mark Prin Suparat steering the thrills.
In Ziam, Suparat plays ex-pro Muay Thai fighter Singh whose pursuits of a peaceful life with doctor girlfriend, Rin (Nychaa Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich) are upended when a zombie outbreak overruns the city of Siam. Armed with nothing more than his skills and anything nifty as a weapon, Singh must battle through the undead onslaught in a perilous rescue mission to save Rin, as well as a young boy named Buddy (Vayla-Wanvayla Boonnithipaisit).
Reflecting on his preparation for the role, Mark shares, “I had to get in top physical shape. I joined a Muay-Thai workshop and spent around four to five hours a day there. Training started with warm-ups, jumping rope, shadow boxing, practicing techniques with my coach, learning counterattacks, and rehearsing the fight choreography for the movie.”
This makes sense considering the action the trailer itself presents. It also helps that Suparat trained with Panna Stunt, the team home to the name of late action legend Panna Rittikrai which is currently spearheaded by his son, Tong Ladphanna.
Fans can also expect a prominent amount of practical effects for the film’s gore and violence, according to the director:
“We’ve all seen many zombie movies, but we rarely see zombies involved in hand-to-hand combat or boxing. We wanted to explore what it’s like to fight zombies using the techniques of Muay Thai, which is known for its intensity and the use of the entire body, including elbows and knees as powerful weapons,” Director Kulp Kaljareuk explains. “Each zombie is crafted with special makeup. No CGI was used to create raw and gory flesh. This choice helps give the zombies a visceral, physical presence that draws the audience deeper into the world.”
Ziam is produced by Nattapong Suriya, and is written by Nut Nualpang, Weerasu Worrapot, Vatanyu Ingkavivat, and Chonnatee Pimnam. Rounding out the cast are Johnny Anfone, Pimmada Borriruksupakorn, and Jason Young.
