Director Gareth Huw Evans has taken to twitter to finally unveil the actor who would play the brother to actress Julie Estelle‘s “Hammer Girl”. Actor Very Tri Yulisman can now be seen available via twitter donning his deadly weapon of choice in the upcoming blockbuster action-packed sequel thriller, tentatively titled The Raid 2: Berandal.
The photo also comes with news bearing pending poster art from graphic designer and Twitchfilm.com writer Omar Hauksson, in addition to Evans’ shameless tease about the final fight to take place, telling followers “Sorry I never normally do this, but fuck me the final fight is pretty fucking awesome! Great work by @iko_uwais and⊠no spoilers here :)”.
A fan poster was released several months ago before wrapping in July, thought to be that of actor Yulisman until it was verified via Twitter from Evans himself not to be so. The film has so far garnered the good graces of film festival goers in the U.K. and Toronto who got to see a brief, roughly edited clip of Estelle in action, with much approval from audiences.
The Raid 2: Berandal follows up the events from the 2011 thriller featuring Iko Uwais reprising his role from the first film as the sole survivor of a swat team slaughtered while raiding a 15-story apartment building, a deadly mission that now sees him going undercover infiltrating a Jakarta crime syndicate to flush out the corruption in his own department. Also starring are Tio Pakusadewo, Putra Arifin Scheunamann, Alex Abbad, Roy Marten and returning actor Yayan Ruhian, along with Marsha Timothy, Cecep Arif Rahman, Oka Antara and Epy Kusnandar, and Japanese actors Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenuchi Endo and Kazuki Kitamura. Uwais and Ruhian directed the action sequences along with guest fight choreographer Larnell Stovall and Hong Kong stunt coordinator Bruce Law. The film is produced by PT Merantau Films and XYZ Films.
North American distributor Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions currently has multi-territorial distribution rights to the upcoming sequel with a release date pending, following the film’s Indonesian domestic release. A teaser is expected to air between now and next month.
