WORLD WAR Z 2 Moves Forward To Keep Director, Adds New Writer
Director Marc Forster’s 2013 adaptation of Max Brooks’s 2006 sci-fi horror novel, World War Z, did pretty well for itself in the face of a bloated budget proceeding script rewrites and reshoots. Alas, you can imagine fans of the first film were happy at the prospects of a sequel which was since announced in June that year shortly after its release.
The Orphanage and The Impossible helmer Juan Antonio Bayona has been on deck to direct from a script by Steven Knight as per Paramount Picture’s original aim for multiple films. That agenda has been in limbo ever since, although as of this week following rumors swirling Bayona‘s involvment with Jurassic World 2, THR‘s latest report officially confirms Paramount is picking things up with the post-apocalyptic sequel with Utopia creator Dennis Kelley advancing with another draft of the script.
Joined by co-financiers and producers from Skydance, actor Brad Pitt is returning to produce as well as star in a reprisal of his role as a former UN investigator who, in the first film, found himself fighting for his family in the wake of a looming zombie apocalypse. The new film is due on June 9, 2017 with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Ian Bryce also producing.
