11 REBELS: Well Go USA Sets 2025 Release In North America
Japanese action fans in North America can gladly rely on Well Go USA in the new year for its pending release of Kazuya Shiraishi’s new period thriller, 11 Rebels. The film is directed by Kazuya Shiraishi who reteams with The Blood Of Wolves scribe Junya Ikegami, whose script is based off of an earlier draft by late Toei veteran Kazuo Kasahara.
The historical betrayal by the Shibata clan of Niigata happened in the shadows of the Boshin War, the fiercest war in Japanese history. From history to the big screen, Shiraishi Kazuya’s adaptation elevates the late, great Kasahara Kazuo’s script, with riveting action by stars Yamada Takayuki, Nakano Taiga, and the talented ensemble cast. The 11-member suicide squad takes on a hopeless fortress-defense mission. When the interests of the Shibata clan, the old shogunate, and the new government collide, their heroic battle begins. The hell-bent rebels enthrall in this timeless film. The film was a participating project in the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, held last year as part of TIFFCOM, the affiliated industry market of TIFF.
News of the acquisition was reported on Thursday by Screendaily‘s Michael Rosser who exclusive also lists German banner Splendid Film as the film’s distributor in their region.
11 Rebels is set to kick off the 27th edition of the Tokyo International Film Festival which launches on October 28, prior to the film’s wider release on November 1 from Toei. Don’t miss the official Toei trailer below!
