An ‘Untitled’ DEADPOOL 2 May Get A PG-13 Re-Release

UNTITLED DEADPOOL 2
20th Century Fox

It appears some parents dissenting over their young children not being able to endulge in a kid-friendly version of a hard-etched R-rated film may be getting their wish with Deadline reporting that Deadpool 2 is getting a PG-13 theatrical re-release on December 21. The film was released on May 18 on screens nationwide from 20th Century Fox, sitting stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmaker David Leitch in the director’s chair.

The article noted the film’s listing as an Untitled Deadpool 2 movie which reinstalled Reynolds this summer as the merc with a mouth following the inaugural blockbuster hit from Tim Miller in 2016. That film drew criticisms that year over news stemming from parents, including some who found themselves watching Reynolds and co. do things no normal person would perform in a film meant for a kid-friendly audience. Parents even went as far as to launch petitions in the months and weeks ahead of its release for a PG-13 cut of the film.

Leitch, who helmed the sequel from a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, previously directed last year’s solo freshman outing, Atomic Blonde, after co-helming John Wick in 2014 with Chad Stahelski.

The otherwise untitled Deadpool 2 movie joins Reynolds with Zazie Beetz, Julian Dennison, Brianna Hildebrand and Josh Brolin, with the Colossal voice of Stefan Kapičić, and Rob Delaney as boundless X-Force member, Peter.

The news on the Untitled Deadpool 2 movie re-release came bundled with an update on the film’s switcheroo with Robert Rodriguez’s live-action/CG action sci-fi, Alita: Battle Angel which will now have a roll out next year, therein moving back Simon Kinberg‘s X-Men saga finale, Dark Phoenix to June 7. Gambit, which currently remains rooted in stagnation by people who clearly have no idea what the heck to do with this IP (at least that’s what it feels like to me, because it’s been a few years now and I’m fed up, so whatever) will now open on March 13, 2020… or whatever.
