Capcom Co., Ltd. officially gave the go-ahead on Thursday with the announcement of a live-action Mega Man adaptation from 20th Century Fox. The studio was green-lit for the production back in September 2015 prior to news last July attaching Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman as directors with Chernin Entertainment (Planet Of The Apes films) and Oka Masi (Heroes) producing – as such, those details haven’t changed.
It appears some parents dissenting over their young children not being able to endulge in a kid-friendly version of a hard-etched R-rated film may be getting their wish with Deadline reporting that Deadpool 2 is getting a PG-13 theatrical re-release on December 21. The film was released on May 18 on screens nationwide from 20th Century Fox, sitting stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmaker David Leitch in the director’s chair.
Without question, director Bryan Singer has done some incredible work on the X-Men saga dating back to the early two-thousandies. Recent events and troubling revelations may or may have not dampened his prospects on the franchise – I’m not at all certain, though fans weren’t exactly keen on seeing Simon Kinberg take the mantle either. The comments at the time were, in a word, passionate.
Headlines late last year were bolstering actor Dave Bautista for great prospects. December gave rise to then-breaking news of action comedy, Stuber, currently housed at 20th Century Fox with Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley producing for Goon helmer Michael Dowse to direct.
This week, the Uber-themed spectacle is signaling its relevance once more with the addition of The Big Sick star, actor Kumali Nanjiani for the title role of Uber driver, Stu, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tripper Clancy wrote the script which sees Bautista as a hard boiled cop hot on the trail of a brutal killer and desperate to catch him by comandeering an Uber and its reluctant five star-rated driver.
Jake Wagner and Nick Thomas are executive producing with Jeremy Kramer overseeing for Fox. Daley and Goldstein are also joined in with efforts at Warner Bros. Pictures to helm DC Comics adaptation, Flashpoint, for a 2020 release.
Bautista’s next appearance will be in Anthony and Joe Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, next month.
Graphic spy novels are in the news once again and with it, word from Umberto Gonzalez at The Wrap regarding Sir Ridley Scott to be in the running to helm Greg Rucka’s Eisner award-winning Oni Press publication, Queen And Country. The project is housed at 20th Century Fox with Rucka having joined in the efforts to pen the script next to that of John Rogers, Ryan Condel, Olivia Milch.
The All The Money In The World helmer will also produce at Chernin Entertainment as all other details may yet unfold; Casting is not yet known as the film had been in development hell prior to actress Ellen Page circling the project as recently as 2013 for the role of Tara Chace, a top British intelligence agent used as bait to draw out an international terrorist after an attack in London. The novels lasted for 32 issues between 2001 and 2007.
Logan co-star Boyd Holbrook is putting things in motion for what Borys Kit details over at The Hollywood Reporter as an epic world-building action thriller titled The Thirst. Plot details are nil while the report highlights the projects as an original idea set in the near future where water is a scarce commodity.
The actor, while on set for Shane Black’s upcoming Fall release of The Predator, reportedly brought the idea to the attention of Fox executive Matt Reilly who will oversee the product for the studio. The Thirst is being housed at 20th Century Fox as the actor’s first major writing gig with which he is also in negotiations to star and produce with Game Night and Jungle Cruise producer John Davis.
The countdown begins as we approach a September release of Angga D. Sasongko’s latest, Wiro Sableng, taken from the pages of the long celebrated action adventure novel saga from author Bastian Tito whose son, actor Vino G. Bastian, now stakes his claim in the title role.
The story itself is set in the 16th century and centured on an axe-wielding hero of legend who accrues a number of skills on his adventures. Plot details are unclear as to which areas of the novels are the film’s focus, but we’ve since garnered a teaser as of December and in kind, our first volley of poster art is now making the rounds from Lifelike Pictures and 20th Century Fox.
Bastian leads the trio of ink below in addition to actress Sherina Munaf and actor Fariz Alfarazi. Rounding out the cast are Marsha Timothy, Lukman Sardi, Rifnu Wikana, Dwi Sasono, Marcella Zalianty, Marcell Siahaan, Happy Salma, Yayan Ruhian, Ruth Marini, Yayu Unru and action fan favorite Cecep Arief Rahman with Dian Sidik, Yusuf Mahardika, and Aghniny Haque also starring.

Fox is making good on its earlier hype from January regarding a standalone Kitty Pride movie, it seems. As Deadline reported on Monday, the studio is tapping Brian Michael Bendis to script an X-Men cinematic universe entry vaguely-titled 143 for Deadpool helmer Tim Miller to direct.
The noted X-Men superheroine launched under Marvel Comics in 1980 with a number of skills surrounding her ability to “phase” herself and become intangible, allowing her and whatever she touches to pass through any object. Her history has seen her grow her affiliations with numerous teams including and especially with Guardians Of The Galaxy protagonist Star Lord at one point.
Fox’s X-Men franchise has seen a trio of actresses perform the role with Ellen Page donning the character for at least two films: The Last Stand and Days Of Future Past. As Deadline notes, the studio is playing it close to the chest but suggests the title hints at the 143rd issue in March of 1981 in which Kitty goes toe-to-toe with an N’Garai, a demonic entity from a race created by an intergalatic Elder God once intent on dominating Earth.
Bendis is strongly versed in comic books having contributed to many an adaptation over the years, including the big screen introduction of Miles Morales in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse for its December 14, 2018 release. Miller is joined by James Cameron on pre-production for a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day set to release on July 26, 2019.
The days and weeks since launching our Five-A-Day countdown have proven fruitful a time or several with various bits of teaser and trailer footage emerging for some titles arriving next year. Thus, expect to hear more ahead of Angga D.
Plot details are unclear as to which areas of the novels are the film’s focus, although the kind folks at Lifelike Pictures and 20th Century Fox have finally begun making their case with an impressive first look teaser sampling Bastian in full heroic form with a taste of the action from Jackie Chan stunt veteran, action director Chan Man Ching and co-star/fight choreographer Yayan Ruhian.
Rounding out the cast are Sherina Munaf, Marsha Timothy, Lukman Sardi, Rifnu Wikana, Dwi Sasono, Marcella Zalianty, Marcell Siahaan, Happy Salma, Yayan Ruhian, Ruth Marini, Fariz Alfarazi, Yayu Unru and action fan favorite Cecep Arief Rahman with Dian Sidik, Yusuf Mahardika, and Aghniny Haque also starring.
Take a look below and keep Wiro Sableng on your radar for the new year!

“Combining visionary directing, writing, an extraordinary cast, and a riveting story that unites thrilling action with nuanced character studies, ‘Widows’ is a project that truly speaks for itself,” said Yariv Milchan, Chairman of New Regency. “Steve McQueen is a groundbreaking filmmaker and we’re proud to support his vision for this film, and so delighted to be working with him again following our successful partnership on ‘12 Years a Slave.’”
The creative team on Widows includes director of photography Sean Bobbit (12 Years a Slave), Academy Award®-winning production designer Adam Stockhausen (The Grand Budapest Hotel), costume designer Jenny Eagan (Beasts of No Nation) and Oscar®-nominated editor Christopher Tellefsen (Moneyball).

Hopefully mercenary and box office smash hit super merc Wade Wilson remembered to turn the stove off before getting all Hollywood on us. In the meantime, it’s taken a bit of time for the upcoming titular sequel of Wade’s crime humpimg fighting adventures as Deadpool to staple a release date and start date, and on Saturday, 20th Century Fox changed all that, and then some.
