GUNNER Adds Five To New Dimitri Logothetis Action Thriller

Production is already wrapped as of last week in Alabama for action thriller, Gunner from director Dimitri Logothetis (Kickboxer: Vengeance, Kickboxer: Retaliation, Jiu-Jitsu), and new casting additions have been announced. With Morgan Freeman and Luke Hemsworth, the roster now includes Sean Rogers (Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash), Yulia Klass (Survive the Game), John Hickman (Jiu Jitsu), Gary Wood (Kickboxer: Retaliation), and Barry Minoff (Assassin). The cast also lists Joseph Baena (Chariot), Connor DeWolfe (Disney+’s “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”), Grant Feely (Disney+’s “Obi-Wan Kenobi”), and Mykel Shannon Jenkins (The Paper Tigers) as of a few weeks ago. Logothetis is directing from a script by Gary Scott Thompson (The Fast and Furious franchise), with Joel Shapiro (Killerman with Liam Hemsworth, Dear Dictator with Michael Caine) producing alongside Logothetis, and Joel Cohen executive producing. There are several clips now making the rounds for Tomasz Baginski’s newest film, Knights Of The Zodiac, the latest of which was released on Friday which you can view below. The clip features lead actor Mackenyu in the lead role of Seiya, opposite the portrayal of the Silver Saint, Eagle Marin, portrayed physically by actress and professional stuntwoman Caitlin Hutson (voiced by Asami Seto for the Japan dub release, English VO credit pending). The scene, a training sequence between Seiya and the enigmatic and lithe Marin, pars for the course with Baginski’s adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s hit manga, which takes off as an origin story that centers on a street orphan thrust into an epic war between knights and the evildoers of Mount Olympus to protect a woman believed to be a reincarnated Goddess. Patriot Pictures and XYZ Films have brought on Wayward Entertainment to release Nick Cassavetes’s newest thriller, God Is A Bullet. The trio have released a first look still which you can view in the lead just beneath, along with the official poster at the bottom of the page. Cassavetes wrote and directed the pic inspired by true events and based on the novel of the same name by Boston Teran. The film follows detective Bob Hightower (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who finds his ex-wife murdered and his daughter kidnapped by an insidious cult. Bob takes matters into his own hands and infiltrates the secretive cult to try to save his daughter. Pun intended or not, it’s high time that the kung fu cinema crowd had another stake in the game and for this, we turn to actor Daniel Rocha who leads the way in The Smoke Master, from directors Augusto Soares and Andre Sigwalt. The Brazilian production has finally run its course at festivals and will soon see a domestic release beginning May 18, a long-awaited milestone for the directing duo who toiled away at creating something subversive, bold and new, and for all intents and purposes, an enjoyable martial arts comedy for all. FREAKS VS THE REICH: Don’t Miss The Trailer For The New WWII Fantasy Action Thriller Opening Next Week

Formerly known as Freaks Out is the latest WWII fantasy action adventure Freaks VS. The Reich, from director Gabriele Mainetti (They Call Me Jeeg). VMI Releasing will release the film theatrically in six markets (Los Angeles, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Orlando) and via VOD & Digital platforms on April 28. The film, which Mainetti wrote with Nicola Gualianone, stars Claudio Santamaria, Aurora Giovinazzo, Pietro Castellitto, Giancarlo Martini, Giorgio Tirabassi, Max Mazzotta, Franz Rogowski, Sebastian Hülk, and Anna Tenta. The film took off into the festival scene in late 2021 before its Italian release that October, and subsequent releases in other European territories and festival screenings, earning as many as nominated for 16 David di Donatello Award nominations and winning 6, including Best Production Design, Best Visual Effects and Best Cinematography among its numerous accolades. OUT: Watch The Teaser For Hiroshi Shinagawa’s New Live-Action Manga Adaptation

You ready for something wild? If so, then get a look at the first teaser for Out, the latest from writer/director Hiroshi Shinagawa (Drop, Slapstick Brothers) based on Mizuta Makoto’s 2012 and ongoing Young Champion manga publication. The film rolls out in Japan this November from Kadokawa Pictures and stars Yuki Kura (Kappei) in the role of hard-nosed 17 year-old Iguchi Tatsuya, fresh out of juvenile detention and determined not to be sent back to lockup whilst under the care and employment of his aunt’s restaurant, though with his unchanged personality, recurring circle of friends, and penchant for violence, staying out of trouble may be harder than it sounds. Also starring are Koshi Mizukami and Re/Member co-star Kotaro Daigo. There’s more that awaits revealing for the cast and story overall, but do get a look at the teaser below!

OSKFF 2023 Review: Joseph Kuo’s THE SWORDSMAN OF ALL SWORDSMEN (1968)

While I’ve known the name Joseph Kuo, his 1968 wuxia feature, The Swordsman Of All Swordsmen, is a freshman venture for me into classic Taiwanese cinema. It delves into the time-honored revenge tale of a child orphaned at a young age when his parents are murdered by a quartet of killers looking to acquire his father’s sword, all leading up to our protagonist’s key story kicking off twenty years later when he arrives in a village and ultimately acquires his first of four targets who just happened to be harassing a street performer and his daughter at the time. Accommodating the film’s pristine digital restoration, the cinematography is fantastic from top to bottom, and with a story and pacing steady enough to keep the viewer interested.
