In Black Lotus, Verhoeven plays the role of special forces officer Matteo Donner. After his best friend died while on a joint mission, he roamed the world struggling with guilt. GEARS OF WAR Adds ‘Dune’ Scribe Jon Spaihts To Pen Feature Adaptation For Netflix

Warner Bros.’s pending Dune sequel stands to be one of the more exciting highlights for moviegoers this year. It’s certainly helped put Jon Spaihts on radar after penning the first one, adding to his resumè notably topped off with Marvel’s Doctor Strange (2016) before now. To date, the screenwriter is now on deck to pen a live-action production of Gears Of War, an adaptation of the hit video game franchise that firstly took off in 2006. OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU FEST X Invites Fans Of Taiwanese Wuxia Fans Back To The Metrograph In April!

Folks in New York City can attend the tenth Old School Kung Fu Fest when it kicks off its two-week festivities on April 21. Subway Cinema and the Metrograph are hosting its fifteen-title line-up, twelve of which will screen in person at The Metrograph NYC and three for the Metrograph At Home virtual audiences making it a partial hybrid affair for all who are interested and welcome. VOLCANO: Upgrade Partners With Iceland And Croatia For New Eco-Political Drama Thriller Series

LA-based Upgrade Productions is revving up the new original eco-political drama-thriller series, Volcano. Nebojsa Taraba and Miodrag Sila (HBO’s “Success,” Netflix’s “The Paper”) created the series based on an original idea and are shepherding for Croatia’s Drugi Plan, alongside Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (“True Detective”) and Hörður Rúnarsson (“Black Sands”) for Iceland’s newly launched ACT 4, and with Upgrade exec producing. Volcano chronicles the tensions that arise between vastly different societies forced to live together and co-exist in the aftermath of a crushing volcanic eruption that devastates Iceland, ensuing a UN directive to relocate the surviving residents to Croatia. THE BOOK OF PERSEUS: Bryan Sloyer Pays Tribute To The Hughes Brothers’ 2010 Dystopian Epic

It feels like it’s been forever and a day since I wrote about Bryan Sloyer, which now brings us to The Book Of Perseus, the latest entry to his body of work as a stuntman and by all accounts, a filmmaker with a strong storytelling caliber and ethic. The short pays a great nod to The Hughes Brothers’ The Book Of Eli which starred Denzel Washington as a drifter backpacking through an apocalyptic wasteland, carrying a mysterious book that supposedly holds the answers to saving mankind. Sloyer also gives his account in the post-film credits of how the project came to pass, collaborating with actor and stunt performer Aaron D. Alexander to help bring the project to life, ultimately attributing it to his love for the film, as well as his faith. The short also features Caitlin Hutson, Zar Succarotte, and Brian Jansa.
