Bring THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS Home To The Family From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment This Summer
I would argue that F. Gary Gray’s latest, The Fate Of The Furious, was a small cut below its predecessor from director James Wan (Justin Lin’s Furious 6 is still my personal favorite to date from the Fast saga). Still, it makes its case as a deserving film that does exactly what its supposed to do while not being too undermined by any off-set drama between its two main stars. I suppose we’ll find out eventually what comes of the next two films of the series – I have a few of my own predictions – while Universal Pictures Home Entertainment sets course for #F8‘s Digital HD release on June 27 before opening on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD and On-Denand and July 11. The official announcement below has all the details, including an extended cut of the film that could hopefully lend eyes to a certain scene that was […]

China/Japan-Produced SILVERING SPEAR To Be First In Nine Unfilmed Kurosawa Screenplays Now In The Works
Late film legend and Palme d’Or winner Kurosawa Akira (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Kagemusha) left behind a widely-celebrated film legacy following his passing in 1998. It’s a legacy currently upheld by his grandson, Kato Takayuki who heads 58-year old Kurosawa Production Co., and is now sharing space on the frontlines with Chinese mobile game development firm, Jinke Entertainnent, for a new investment plan to finish out remainder of Kurosawa’s nine unfilmed screenplays, the first of which will be Chinese language actioner, Silvering Spear. Silvering Spear tells the story of a samurai named Ishigaki Jyube who demonstrates remarkable marksmanship while living during the Warring States period, a turbulent time in Japan’s history. Ishigaki Jyube searches for a way to utilize his special talents, while not exploiting them for personal gain. The Samurai aspires to be a leader who would help to usher in a peaceful time for all. Dedicated to this lofty goal, […]
Tilda Swinton Is Savage In The Official Trailer For Bong Joon-Ho’s OKJA
If director Bong Joon-Ho’s 2013 sci-fi action drama, Snowpiercer, has taught you nothing else, it has shown his ability to invoke any scale of warfare through schisms that reflect centrally on man’s own desire to consume and survive. It had a terrific, shameless villain in actress Tilda Swinton and she has since returned as graceful and blunt as ever in antagonistic fashion in Bong’s latest adventure drama, Okja. For 10 idyllic years, young Mija has been caretaker and constant companion to Okja—a massive animal and an even bigger friend—at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But that changes when a family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and transports her to New York, where image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando has big plans for Mija’s dearest friend. With no particular plan but single-minded in intent, Mija sets out on a rescue mission, but her already […]

Wu Jing Reports For Duty In The New WOLF WARRIOR 2 Trailer
Action star and actor Wu Jing’s Wolf Warrior was a box office hit in 2015. Going forward, it was anyone’s guess what a sequel would entail until it was made clear early last year that a follow-up would come packaged with some major Hollywood muscle. That element fashions itself accordingly in the wake of our first official full trailer for Wolf Warrior 2 with Wu front and centers as he faces off with more enemies in a fictitious war-torn African setting. Newly added are Wu’s Legendary Assassin cohort Celina Jade, as well as Kingdom series star and Captain America 2 & 3 co-star, actor Frank Grillo, actors Han Geng and Gang Wu. Rounding out the cast is, well… a montage of gun battles, explosions, close-ups, more tanks, even more tanks, slo-mo bullet animation, AC/DC, Wu Jing kicking ass and chewing out a few English words, intense stare-downs, hugging, and just […]
