Classic TV series Kung Fu had long been in the works for a remake/reboot of some kind until the CW network landed its own iteration starring actress Olivia Liang for a three season run. That show is streaming on Max and my reaction is here if you’re curious, while the word from Deadline is that Donnie Yen has been tapped to star in the project which has since moved to Universal Pictures and David Leitch and Kelly McCormick’s 87 North. The news on Wednesday marks the latest update on the project succeeding a concept originally birthed by screen legend Bruce Lee that was retooled for its 1972 premiere featuring David Carradine, who continued the TV saga alongside Chris Potter in “Kung Fu: The Legend Continues”. Indeed one of Korean cinema’s best contributions to coming-of-age dramas has to be writer and director Yu Ha’s third feature directorial outing, Once Upon A Time In High School: The Spirit Of Jeet Kune Do starring Kwon Sang-woo who made his debut opposite Jang Hyuk in Volcano High (2001). The movie is a story of boyhood, bloody knuckles and Bruce Lee worship set in the 70s and I first learned about this film back many years ago when I was a HKFlix customer. Alexander Nevsky’s days of Western indie action are far from over as he heads up Taken From Rio Bravo, now out with official key art and a July 19 theatrical release date from ITN Studios. The film, a sequel to last year’s Gunfight At Rio Bravo, is directed by Joe Cornet who reprises his role opposite Nevsky, with a script by Craig Hamann. Taken From Rio Bravo sees the return of the mysterious gunslinger John Basil Turchin who teams up with a sheriff in pursuit of a gang of sadistic human traffickers known as The Posse, who have kidnapped five women. THE WAGES OF SIN Hits The Gas With An Adrenaline-Fueled Teaser!

Titled as it was for Henri-Georges Clouzot’s 1953 classic, such will be the case for hitmaker Julien Leclerq’s own iteration for Netflix with The Wages Of Fear. The first official teaser is out and marks another notch on the belt for Netflix as terrific as it continues to track with French action and adventure titles. It’s got Franck Gastambide, Alban Lenoir, Ana Girardot and Sofiane Zermani starring here for the story of a crack team of four people hired to transport nitroglycerine across the danger-laden deserts of South America within 24 hours, albeit without the appropriate safety equipment. The teaser lends plenty to what comes next and should guarantee a proper adrenaline rush by its March 29 launch. Take a look!

One other upcoming prospect for action fans will be the release of Chief Of Station, from director Jesse V. Johnson. Deadline reported on Thursday that Vertical Entertainment has nabbed the pic and will release the film in May. Hailing from Bee Holder Productions and sales agent Concourse Media, Chief Of Station stars Aaron Eckhart who returns to the label following the release of Renny Harlin actioner, The Bricklayer, earlier in January. Howard J. Ford’s new horror thriller, Darkgame, is online with an official trailer ahead of its February 20 release. Ford directs a cast led by Ed Westwick, Andrew P. Stephen, Natalya Tsvetkova, Lola Wayne, Rose Reynolds and Rory Alexander, with a script by Gary Grant and Niall Johnson. A police detective races to save the captives of a dark web game show, where the losers are executed via live broadcast. ROAD HOUSE: Bar Room Brawls And Close Calls In The Official Trailer For Doug Liman’s Remake Of The 1989 Action Classic

Director Doug Liman wrote a compelling and nuanced op-ed presented at Deadline on Wednesday, elucidating the case for his boycott of the upcoming SXSW premiere of his new movie, Road House. In the article, Liman details how Amazon slated the movie for a streaming release, thus reversing the film’s initial theatrical prospects following the company’s acquisition of MGM into its library back in Spring of 2022. He also highlights the importance of sustaining theatrical releases to maintain the film industry at large, citing a number of things including film performance positives on streaming platforms resulting from theatrical windows, to computers lacking the “experience of laughing and cheering and crying with a packed audience in a dark theater”. BLACK MASK: Pre-Orders Are Now Up For The Fully Uncut 1996 Jet Li Actioner From Eureka Classics

Following the Eureka/MVD output deal, the official details are now out for Black Mask, director Daniel Lee’s high-octane 1996 sci-fi martial arts action thriller starring Jet Li, Karen Mok and late screen thesp Patrick Lung. The upcoming Eureka Classics re-release marks latest update from the deal as one of two titles announced last week, with Black Mask resurfacing once again following its theatrical U.S. release from Artisan Entertainment in 1999. The new version is a limited edition, remastered and restored in 2K and will be a fully uncut version of the film debuting in the UK on April 22, and made available for the first time in the U.S. on Blu-Ray from April 23. BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN Teaser Reveals Latest Actioner With Akshay Kumar And Tiger Shroff

Hindi barnburner action continues its run with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, the latest from Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai director Ali Abbas Zafar. The film joins leads Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff for the film which has since moved up its previous December 2023 to an April 10 release in time for the Eid Holiday. Of course there’s little to spot online in terms of plot so the teaser footage below is really all there is to go on, and there’s plenty to take from it if big scale action and brooding with a buddy twist is your thing. And you can tell that Kumar and Shroff end up as buddies, especially when they’re kicking whatever asses are in front of them in typical stylish and coordinated Bollywood fashion. In the meantime, the film quietly rolled out on the free ad-supported platform, Tubi where you can now check out the successor to Joko Anwar’s BCU launchpad that was Gundala in 2019. Based on R.A.
