BLOWBACK Trailer Revealed For Bryan G. Thompson’s New Action Adventure Premiering In June
The second annual Virginia Black Film Festival is kicking off this summer, and with it, the latest red carpet premiere for action thriller, Blowback. The film is directed by Bryan G. Thompson who also stars along with Marquita McSwain and Jemiah Dancil, and award-winning actor Clifton Powell (Menace II Society, Rush Hour, “Fight Night”), and was filmed across parts of Virginia and Maryland, and Spain.
Ares’ safe suburban lifestyle is abruptly interrupted when his wife is kidnapped in a home invasion. The only person that can help him find her is King, an organized crime boss and Ares’ estranged father. The two must put aside their differences and race against time as they work together to find and rescue her.
Blowback hails from Thompson’s Imani Films, in association with Maverick Entertainment in a first for the label, marking a debut production for the label since launching its distributorship in 1997. The movie will have its VBFF premiere on Saturday, June 21 at 7pm at The American Theatre, and resume in festivals before releasing nationwide on multiple streaming platforms, including Peacock, Apple TV+, Tubi, Pluto TV, Fox Soul, Tubi, and Maverick Black Cinema.

“Blowback” features intense action sequences and exciting stunts. The US-based stunt team is directed by world champion martial artists Willie “The Bam” Johnson, who also acts in the film. A seven-time sport karate and kung fu world champion and two-time All-American champion, Johnson is widely known for starring on the acclaimed television show “WMAC Masters” hosted by Shannon Lee (daughter of Bruce Lee) and “Masters of the Martial Arts” presented by Wesley Snipes. The Madrid-based stunt team is directed by George Karja an award-winning stunt coordinator, film director, and producer and founder of LK Stunts and LaKatana Films. An expert in various martial arts including Shaolin Kung Fu and Wushu, Karja’s skills allowed him to create a multitude of elaborate choreographed fight sequences in “Blowback” in locations in and around Madrid, Spain.
Thompson’s been on our radar before through his partnership with the aforementioned Karja who just partnered on the upcoming indie actioner, Rough Dog, in which Karja stars and directs. We’ll be looking forward to both of these projects as the months pass.
