Courtesy of Dazzler Media UK Film fans have the opportunity to support physical media and purchase the latest Horror/Action offering of the Dracula saga “The Last Voyage Of The Demeter” out now on DVD, Blu-Ray and HD. Based on the one chapter 7 in Bram Stoker’s Dracula “Captains Log” tells the story of the cursed ship and it’s passengers who transported the blood thirsty count to Whitby, London. Which is a breath of fresh air, a new story that hasn’t been done before on the screen. I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the film alongside my Horror fan dad and this is what we had to say about it. The opening of the film shows the aftermath of the shipwreck of the Demeter and the finding of the captains log. The cut to a much brighter second scene is somewhat a surprise taken that there […]

Kim Tae-gon’s new hit survival thriller, Project Silence, is finally hitting digital platforms on February 25. The film marks on in a few posthumous releases for lead actor, the late Lee Sun-kyun who stars along with Ju Ji-hoon, Kim Hee-won, Moon Sung-keun, and Ye Soo-jung. Jung-won and his daughter are on their way to Incheon Airport when a thick fog causes a massive chain-reaction crash on the airport bridge. They get stuck in the chaos with a group of people, stranded with nowhere to go. Things take a turn for the worse when mutated military dogs that were secretly being transported escape from their cages and the survivors on the bridge become targets of these deadly animals. As the bridge is shut down and in danger of collapsing, it is now up to Jun-won and the others to figure out a way to survive the night while uncovering the conspiracy […]
After nabbing the Golden Princess library earlier this month, Shout! Studios back to blow our minds by revealing a quintet of Jet Li action hits arriving in February on 4K Digital!
I, The Executioner comes to VOD, Digital, and Film Movement Plus on January 31. TW: This movie review discusses sexual assault and battery. This is all in my head at the moment, but I’m really curious as to the influence of classic Japanese films on a certain Korean filmmaker favorite of mine whose latest completed film I’m yet to capture. For now though, I’m happy to continue my own growth in that direction as I get to examine a little bit of the post-war cinematic work of Tai Kato these days. This time, it’s I, The Executioner, also known as Requiem For A Massacre depending on the marketing. Chalk this one up as another masterpiece by one of the most revered filmmakers of his time – and ours – gathering a cast of characters who are as complex as they are compelling in their deconstruction. That’s really what pulls you […]
By A Man’s Face Shall You Know Him comes to VOD, Digital, and Film Movement Plus on January 31. Late filmmaker Tai Kato is the latest centerpiece of Film Movement Classics’ VOD and digital releases for the first month of 2024. First up among a pair of titles forthcoming is By A Man’s Face Shall You Know Him, Kato’s 1966 crime drama starring Noboru Ando as a post-WWII medic-turned-doctor who reflects on his life of turmoil, heartache, and violence when an old friend is admitted as his patient. Fans of Showa-era productions like these might be more than familiar with Kato’s work, or even that of Ando or the actor’s own history as a former gangster in his heyday. The same can likely be stated with respect to the distinguishable scar Ando bares on his left cheek, which certainly makes Ando’s performance here an inspired one, it not enhanced. Optically, […]
Eureka Entertainment’s Running On Karma arrives on Blu-Ray on January 28. Order it today at the MVD Shop. Johnnie To and Wai Ka-fai’s Running On Karma hit me differently twenty years ago, so I wasn’t too keen on it. Nowadays my mind is more open to different types of films in the field I cover, and I’ve come to realize that it’s a film that holds a little something for several kinds of audiences. Andy Lau wears an albeit convincing muscle suit in his second role after donning a similar suit for a portly character in Love On A Diet, a 2001 rom-com from the same directing duo. The muscular build for the role Lau plays this time around takes a life on its own as an aspect to the inherently transformative nature of the story To and Wai proffer to viewers. The long and short? Lau stars along with […]
Dead Before They Wake is now available on Digital Download I’ve come across the work of director Nathan Shepka prior to this year but his latest, Dead Before They Wake is my first real dive into his work. Shepka stars in the film which he also shares co-directing duties with Andy Crane, from a script Shepka wrote as well as produced under his own banner. The film is much ado with the kind of real world-driven storytelling in which human and sex trafficking is the underpinning that propels the story forward. Shepka plays Alex, a nightclub bouncer who is also known for doing favors for the right price, and people. Evan (Sylvester McCoy) is one such individual who approaches Alex one evening with a job offer: To search for a missing 14 year-old girl who is believed to have been enveloped into the city’s labyrinthine underworld of child sex trafficking. […]
Well Go USA is proudly releasing Jade, the new action thriller starring actress and martial artist Shaina West (The Woman King, Marvel’s Black Widow) and Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum). Stunt multi-hyphenate and filmmaker James Bamford (Man With No Past, The CW’s “Arrow”) directs from a script he co-wrote with screenwriters Lynn Colliar and Glenn Ennis. After her brother’s untimely and accidental death at her own hands, Jade swore she’d never pick up another gun. But when she unknowingly comes between powerful businessman “Tork” and her former gang leader in their urgent search for a valuable hard drive that could single-handedly take down Interpol, she may not have a choice. With the guidance of Reese, an old friend at Interpol, Jade must come to terms with all she’s faced in the past and present to safeguard her growing family’s future. This is a pretty big one for […]

The film is getting a release in the UK on January 17 from CineAsia UK, while the current plan stateside will be the film’s debut on Digital, Blu-Ray, and DVD on February 18 from Well Go USA Entertainment. Soon after legendary kung fu star Jackie Chan is invited to adopt a beloved zoo panda named Hu Hu, a notorious international crime syndicate sets its sights on the bear and offers a massive […]
The last time I was quoted in a press mailer for a Well Go USA Entertainment release was in 2021 for Japanese actioner, Hydra. You can imagine my jubilation on Monday when the PR launched for the company’s most recent offering, the Xu Haofeng and Xu Junfeng-directed 100 Yards, which is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD beginning February 18. This film is some of the most fun I’ve ever had watching and reviewing and I can’t wait for more people to see it if they haven’t. The film is actually already available on digital as we speak, but if you’re all about that physical media life, then Well Go USA has you covered. Hit the text and trailer below! In volatile 1920s Tianjin, a clandestine martial arts circle arose to maintain peace between rival martial arts schools in the ultra-stylish old-school kung fu martial arts epic 100 YARDS, debuting on […]
Man With No Past will be available to buy on digital on January 14 by Republic Pictures (a Paramount Pictures Label). With thirty years of stunt work in the rear view, James Bamford has already begun the staunch effort toward directing, having already etched in a number of television shows next to his extensive stunt resumé. On the film front, fans of his work have been keeping tabs of Bamford whose debut at the helm heretofore was Shaina West starrer, Jade, which got its day in the UK last June. As of this publication, that film is nowhere to be seen in the states, which is a little bewildering to say the least, although his latest, Man With No Past, is a clear and pretty cool indicator that the man newly at the helm these days is still going strong. The concept executed is something of a different story depending […]
I tried like crazy last year to catch Lowell Dean’s head-bashing ringside horror, Dark Match, while it performed for Fantasia. Alas, that never came to pass, but the film is now poised for release via Shudder in the U.S., the U.K. & Ireland, and in Australia & New Zealand on January 31. A small-time wrestling company accepts a well-paying gig in a backwoods town only to learn, too late, that the community is run by a mysterious cult leader with devious plans for their match. The official trailer is here as well and delivering all the unhinged, R-rated violence and gore you would expect from a violent tourno wrestling spectacle from the man who brought you Wolfcop and its sequel. Dark Match stars Ayisha Issa, Steven Ogg, Sara Canning, Michael Eklund, and Jonathan Cherry, and wrestling superstar Chris Jericho. Catch the bloody new trailer below, and mind your viewing surroundings […]
We gave famed director Tai Kato a brief mention in last month’s coverage of the streaming releases for Film Movement Classics’s Red Peony Gambler Trilogy. This week, Kato is now the latest in-focus subject of the label’s latest announcements of Japan crime classics, By A Man’s Face Shall You Know Him (1966), and I, The Executioner (1968). Both films, much like their fellow Showa Era cohorts under the Film Movement Classics banner, are getting replenished releases for viewers, debuting for the first time in high definition on VOD and Digital, and on Film Movement Plus, the label’s in-house streaming platform, on January 31. Film Combat Syndicate is sharing an exclusive look at the trailers for both titles which you can view below within the text. Take a look, and then head over to Film Movement for more! PRESENTED IN HIGH DEFINITION FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, BOTH FILMS PREMIERE ON […]
