Much has been celebrated around the hopeful reunion of international action stars Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen hopefully reuniting for the sequel for Silver Vase, Iron Knight, the sequel to Ang Lee’s visual martial arts masterpiece, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, based on the classic Crane-Iron pentalogy of books by Wang Du Lu. Today, The Wrap confirms that Yen, one of the world’s busiest people right now, is confirmed to star in the film newly titled, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny, which will be distributed by The Weinstein Company.
The film will be directed by master action legend Yuen Wo-Ping, based on a screenplay by John Fusco, and is scheduled for a March 2014 production, pushing the film back from its previously announced production date for May 2013, as reported by Deadline earlier this year.
Yeoh and Yen previously starred in Michael Mak’s 1993 wuxia feature, Butterfly & Sword. Their reunion with Yuen marks their first time back together on set since the 1994 production of the headlining Hong Kong classic, Wing Chun.
