Gabrielle Union Joins Jamie Foxx In SLEEPLESS NIGHT For Open Road

It’s been a while since I’ve heard from actress Gabrielle Union. Immediately the first thing that comes to mind when I think of her is her role in Cradle 2 The Grave and Bad Boys 2 and I’m happy to still see her name make the rounds when it comes to the action genre. No kung fu stuff here though.

THR confirmed that the actress will be joining actor Jamie Foxx in director Baran Bo Odar‘s new film, Sleepless Night. The film was announced back in January from Open Road Films ahead of its position this year at Cannes with Foxx staking his claim along with actress Michelle Monaghan in respective roles reprising those from an original French cop thriller released in 2011.

SLEEPLESS NIGHT is the story of Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx), a seemingly corrupt Las Vegas cop. When gangsters kidnap his son as ransom for a shipment of cocaine he stole, Downs races to save his son’s life without getting caught by Internal Affairs and before the mobsters discover that he’s actually lost the goods. Monaghan plays officer Jennifer Bryant, an Internal Affairs agent investigating Downs who ultimately has to decide which side of the law he’s on.

The screenplay was written by Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center, the upcoming Straight Outta Compton). SLEEPLESS NIGHT is a reinvention of the French film Nuit Blanche, directed by Frédéric Jardin, written by Frederic Jardin, Olivier Fox and Nicolas Saada.

Union is set to play Foxx‘s ex-wife who figures into her son’s rescue. Vertigo Entertainment is producing the film for Open Road Films who are backing the production with global market representation in its partnership with FilmNation. The film also adds to Foxx’s own roster upon having recently been attached to a seperate starring role in 300: Rise Of An Empire helmer Noam Murro’s upcoming heist thriller, Blink, from a Black List script by Hermany Perla to begin filming this Fall.
