Ric Roman Waugh’s new actioner, Kandahar, is out and about on Tuesday with a brand new trailer as the film inches closer to its May 26 release. The pic hails from Open Road Films and stars Gerard Butler, Navid Negahban, Ali Fazal, Travis Fimmel and Elnaaz Norouzi.
Great news for any and all who’ve been riding the Gerard Butler train following the success of Plane with co-lead Mike Colter over at Lionsgate. The actor’s next big swing is set to arrive in time for Memorial Day weekend on May 26 as Angel Has Fallen helmer Ric Roman Waugh’s new action adventure, Kandahar, now lands an official trailer from Open Road Films.
Feel free to browse online for various online forums and opinions following last year’s premiere of award-winning director Terry George’s latest, The Promise. Otherwise, Open Road is stamping an April release in the U.S. with Canada and select territories in Europe courtesy of eOne, and with none other than Christian Bale, Oscar Isaac and Charlotte Le Bon.

Film Will Be Released Wide in the US by Open Road on April 21, 2017

LOS ANGELES January 17, 2017 – Sierra/Affinity will launch international sales for THE PROMISE starring Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ex-Machina, Drive), Charlotte Le Bon (The Hundred Foot Journey, The Walk) and Academy Award® winner Christian Bale (The Big Short, American Hustle, The Fighter, The Dark Knight Trilogy). The film, which premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival, is written by Academy Award nominee Robin Swicord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Memoirs of a Geisha, Little Women) and Academy Award winner Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, The Boxer, In the Name of the Father), who also directed this epic tale. Open Road will release the film wide in the US on April 21, 2017 on over 2,000 screens, with Sierra/Affinity launching international sales of the film immediately.
Entertainment One (eOne) will distribute the film in Canada, the UK, Australia/New Zealand, Benelux and Spain as part of its partnership with Sierra/Affinity which commenced early last year.

Michael Boghosian (Oscar Isaac), arrives in the cosmopolitan hub as a medical student determined to bring modern medicine back to Siroun, his ancestral village in Southern Turkey where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians have lived side by side for centuries.
Photo-journalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale), has come here only partly to cover geo-politics. He is mesmerized by his love for Ana (Charlotte le Bon), an Armenian artist he has accompanied from Paris after the sudden death of her father. When Michael meets Ana, their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men. As the Turks form an alliance with Germany and the Empire turns violently against its own ethnic minorities, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to survive even as events threaten to overwhelm them.
Academy Award nominee Mike Medavoy (Black Swan, Shutter Island, Zodiac), William Horberg (Cold Mountain, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Sliding Doors, Searching for Bobby Fischer) and Eric Esrailian produced the film. The film had its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

Writer and director Ben Younger has a treat for you if you’re pining for a little boxing to wash your Thanksgiving dinner later this year with the new bio drama, Bleed For This. Miles Teller (Whiplash, Divergent) stars as Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, a local Providence boxer who shot to stardom after winning two world title fights. After a near-fatal car accident leaves Vinny with a severed spine, doctors tell him he may never walk again. With the help of renowned trainer Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart), Vinny becomes a legend when he not only walks again, but miraculously returns to the ring to reclaim his title belt only a year after the accident.
Also starring are actress Katey Seagal, Ted Levine, Ciarán Hinds, Jordan Gelber and Amamda Clayton. Open Road Films has set a limited theatrical date for November 4 followed by a wider release on November 23.

SLEEPLESS NIGHT is the story of Vincent Downs (Jamie Foxx), a seemingly corrupt Las Vegas cop. When gangsters kidnap his son as ransom for a shipment of cocaine he stole, Downs races to save his son’s life without getting caught by Internal Affairs and before the mobsters discover that he’s actually lost the goods. Monaghan plays officer Jennifer Bryant, an Internal Affairs agent investigating Downs who ultimately has to decide which side of the law he’s on.
Pierre Morel is one of my favorite directors, and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that regard. The 2010 thriller From Paris With Love drew some mixed reactions, but Taken was a huge hit in 2008, preceeded by the popular parkour action favorite, Banlieue 13, so I’m more privy to believe that Morel‘s next, The Gunman, will further draw some positive impressions.
To our good fortune, that day will come to North American theatergoers on February 20, 2015, following Open Road Films’ acquisition of the film’s U.S. rights from international sales agent, Studiocanal earlier this month. The film will also release in the U.K. the same day as North America, preceeded by its release in France on February 18, and subsequent release in Australia and New Zealand on the 19, with Germany opening the film on the 26.
Based on the 2002 novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette, Morel directs leading man Sean Penn who plays a special forces soldier suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), whose pursuit of a new life with his childhood sweetheart is stopped short when the organization he works for pulls him back in the field forcing him to trek from London to Barcelona and across Europe in order to clear his name. The Gunman is written by Don MacPherson with a screenplay by Dredd helmer Pete Travis.
Penn is joined by Idris Elba, Ray Winstone and Javier Bardem, with Mark Rylance and actress Jasmine Trinca rounding out the cast.
