Following its announcement in 2022, cameras are now expected to roll next year for “Squid Game” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk’s sci-fi thriller, K.O. Club. Hwang will also reunite with series co-star Lee Byung-hun, who leads a cast including fellow “Squid Game” vet Park Hae-soo along with Oh Jung-se (Hi-Five), Kim So-jin (Escape From Mogadishu), and Cho Yeo-jeong (Parasite).
Set in a dystopian future where rich people can buy their way into a longer life, the story pits an elderly elite class against hopeless younger citizens who are forced to fight for survival. The title is short for “Killing Oldmen Club”.
K.O. Club is being produced by Hwang’s Firstman Studio. The film also rejoins Hwang and Lee for the first time on a feature since 2017’s The Fortress.
The news adds to the No Other Choice actor’s continuing work slate which also includes the temp-titled Joseon period martial arts thriller, “Nambeol,” on which cinematographer Lee Mo-gae is making his directorial debut.
