K.O. CLUB: ‘Squid Game’ Creator Sets Up New Feature Project
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk is undoubtedly paying huge mind to the success of his hit series on Netflix since last Fall, as the latest report from Variety confirms he’s penning the second season for a 2024 launch following January’s announcement.
None of this is to say he isn’t branching out to other ideas, of course, and so it goes with trade news confirming the development of feature thriller, K.O. Club (or Killing Old People Club). Exact plot details are unknown as of late, but according to the report, it was at the MipTV marketing floor that Hwang revealed a 25-page treatment so far, inspired by the work of Italian author Umberto Eco.
“It will be more violent than ‘Squid Game,’” teased Dong-hyuk, adding that he might have to hide from old people after the film comes out.
For sure I’ve yet to be within reach of Hwang’s previous films, though I’m like most of you reading this who are already on board after Squid Game and the success its generated for its lead cast thusfar, and Killing Old People Club sounds like enticing genre cinema worth looking forward to.
