Kevin Tancharoen Set To Direct THE GUNS OF CHRISTMAS PAST

Well, it’s not Mortal Kombat, but director Kevin Tancharoen is still very much an active filmmaker with a new project lined up in the form of The Guns Of Christmas Past for Voltage Pictures. The film reportedly puts a loose spin on Charles Dickens’ 1843 classic, A Christmas Story, centered on the modern day story of self-realization about a retired Chicago hitman who comes home to avenge the death of his friend, forced to fight his way past three unlikely adversaries from his past, present and future.

The news comes as the director, best known for firing up the Mortal Kombat fan base in the past four years with a leaked stellar action packed shortfilm, and a two-season webseries, which were recently fueled by some micro blurbs of a possible third season in development. Tancharoen unceremoniously left the Mortal Kombat fray late last year prior to recent developments back in March, so suffice it to say, all the facts are yet to be formally presented. Tancharoen, however, has been keeping himself busy on the webfront, having worked with dance troupe, The Jabbawockeez in addition to a conceptual action short, The Gable 5 with actress Eliza Dushuku.

Patience is a virtue of there ever was, especially if we will ever see the Mortal Kombat film we were once promised. Personally, I just hope Warner Bros. moves forward with it whether or not Tancharoen will be in the director’s chair, so long as the person chosen understands the property. In the meantime, the action genre can always use an appealing new action thriller, and Tancharoen has undoubtedly proven himself on that front, without question.

Zev Foreman and Nicolas Chartier are producing the film for Voltage Pictures who are financing the film. Casting details and release date are pending.
