Actress Peyton List will lead the cast for American Boogeywoman, the new biographical crime thriller from director and celebrated horror guru Daniel Farrands (The Haunting of Sharon Tate, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers). Currently in post-production, the film is billed as a prequel to Patty Jenkins’s chilling 2003 drama, Monster, which won multiple Best Actress nominations and wins for Charlize Theron’s portrayal of late serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The logline reads: Based on Aileen Wuornos’s early life in 1976, the film follows America’s most notorious female serial killer in Florida when she marries a older wealthy Yacht Club president only to inflict mayhem within her new family and Florida’s high society. Rounding out the cast are veteran horror/thriller actor Tobin Bell (“Jigsaw” from the Saw franchise, Manson Family Vacation), Lydia Hearst (The Haunting of Sharon Tate), Nick Vallelonga (Universal’s Green Book), Swen Temmel (Twentieth Century Fox’s In Time, Lionsgate’s Backtrace), Meadow Williams (STX’s Den of Thieves, Hulu’s Boss Level, New Line Cinema’s The Mask), and Andrew Biernat (Shadow’s Edge).Temmel and Williams are producing the pic along with Lucas Jarach (The Haunting of Sharon Tate, The Amityville Murders), Luke Daniels (Under the Silver Lake, No Man’s Land), and Daniel Davila (Dead Mine, Knife Fight). Jarach negotiated the distribution deal on behalf of the producers with Jonathan Deckter on behalf of Voltage Pictures, which has acquired worldwide sales rights.“We know so little of the early years of Aileen, especially given she was living a very different life to the one we see in Monster,” said List. “Embodying such a deeply complex and divisive character is what drew me to the project, and I can’t wait to bring context to America’s most infamous female serial killer.”“We’ve been fans of Peyton’s for quite awhile. Not only does she bring an immense amount of great acting ability to the project, she has a built-in powerhouse of fans with a combined 23M social media followers,” commented Voltage’s President and COO Jonathan Deckter. “It’s also great to be working again with the very talented Lucas and Dan on this project and continue to bring unique stories to the screen for all generations and cinefiles alike.”“Most Americans know about Aileen Wuornos’ infamous killing spree as seen through the Oscar winning film Monster, but what they don’t know are the details from her early life and the build-up of events that drove her to commit such horrific crimes,” added Jarach. “We look forward to bringing a new perspective to this incredible true story that has so much more to give audiences around the globe.”List is best known for her Kids’ Choice Award-nominated portrayal of Emma Ross in Disney’s fan favorite show Bunk’d. Her credits include 27 Dresses, Remember Me, the Diary of a Whimpy Kid franchise, Hulu’s Light as a Feather and CBS series Happy Together, all currently topped off by her latest role as “Tory” in Netflix’s Karate Kid spin-off series Cobra Kai, which is currently on track for a fourth season.Farrands made his breakthrough in the industry writing the screenplay for Miramax’s Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers starring Paul Rudd. I have a feeling we’re gonna see a few superhero-driven narratives in the year to come – the kind centered on superheroes out of their element only to be pulled back into the fray when duty calls. Such is the case for Daniel Isn’t Here helmer Adam Egypt Mortimer’s new film, Archenemy, which Voltage Pictures revealed this week in the form of an official trailer, firstly revealed by Variety

Writer Chris Morgan seems to be having a great run this season with the current billion dollar success of his latest script entry into Universal’s Fast saga, The Fate Of The Furious. It certainly helped in nearly attaching him to the studio’s current development of a spin-off with two of the franchise’s co-stars and now we’re learning that Morgan is part of another venture with Voltage Pictures.
The news at Deadline regards Luke Paradise’s speculative script for The Prodigal, an action title now moving forward with a story centered as a modern revenge tale about a soldier’s return home and his subsequent inquiry surrounding his brother’s mysterious death. Morgan will produce with development head Ainsley Davies at Chris Morgan Productions, next to Voltage’s Alissa Phillips and Nicolas Chartier producing and Jonathan Deckter executive producing.
Morgan, who has been with the Fast saga since The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, has several projects being readied at Universal, including Monsterverse titles centered on Van Helsing and Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, and is also so far attached to an adaptation of game property Gears Of War.
