Kitamura’s Marine Action Thriller, DOORMAN, Casts Ruby Rose To Star

Do I still want a Versus 2? Yes. Am I deluded at this point? Probably. Still, director Kitamura Ryuhei is someone I’ve been long proud of since stumbling upon his films back in college in 2001, and it gives me great pleasure to see reported at Deadline that his latest, Doorman, has installed actress Ruby Rose.

Rose will play Ali Gorski, a decorated Marine officer, homeward bound and looking for an opportunity to heal from battlefield trauma. Her newfound refuge as a doorman at The Carrington, a historic, labyrinth apartment in New York City, is short-lived with the arrival of deadly mercenaries bent on retrieving precious art hidden in the walls of the building.

Doorman is penned by Lior Chefetz, Joe Swanson and Harry Winer, and with story by Greg Williams and Matt McAllester.

DDI is at EFM in Berlin this week with Doorman included in its slate, now two and a half years since the director of such amazing cult hits as Versus and Azumi, and stateside thrillers like Midnight Meat Train, and No One Lives and Downrange announced the project at the American Film Market in 2016.

With casting now underway ahead of an April shoot, Rose, soon slated to make DC Comics history on the CW as Batwoman, replaces actress Katie Holmes who was first cast in September 2017. Rose’s credits also include The Meg, Chad Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 2, and D.J. Caruso’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, as well as upcoming Brit thriller, SAS: Red Notice.

Smash Media’s Harry Winer is producing with DDI’s Jason Moring, and with Michael Philip, Phin Glynn, Sara Shaak and Shayne Putzlocher. DDI’s Mark Padilla and Stanley Preschutti will exec produce.

“Ruby has tremendous talent and a wide commercial appeal, which makes her perfect to lead this strong, female driven action movie”, said DDI’s Moring. (Andreas Wiseman, Deadline)
