If there’s one thing I can appreciate at the moment of writing this, is director’s James Gunn’s committmemt to making a potentially great Superman movie. He’s confident enough that he and the studio are now rolling out an extended first look at the titular character played by David Corenswet following its rousing showcase at CinemaCon which you can read more about here or anywhere the trades have been reporting.
The footage builds on a few moments from the previous teaser which debuted back in December in which loyal superior, Krypto, takes our severely injured hero home. The extended sneak peek trailer introduced on Thursday reveals our first look at Gunn’s cinematic treatment of Superman’s Kryptonian fortress wherein a squad of robots treat his ailments with concentrated direct sunlight.
The robots are definitely an area of the Superman IP I wasn’t aware of considering I didn’t read the comics but certainly kept up on the movies, TV shows and games. If anything, this teaser shows that Gunn is covering areas of this comic adaptation that folks like me are only just discovering through his work, and that speaks to the likelihood that this DC Studios reboot will assuredly find its audience, even if the staunch Snyderverse loyalists remain unmoved.
