Legendary, AfterShock Partner For Image Comics’ GOD COUNTRY
Renowned writer Donny Cates will pen a feature adaptation for his 2017 graphic novel, God Country. Written by Cates and illustrated by Geoff Shaw, the Image Comics publication was an explosive hit upon release preceding its four-time reprint before being collected in trade paperback.
The film centers on Emmett Quinlan, an elderly widower rattled by dementia. Emmett isn’t just a problem for his children–his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home–as well as the surrounding West Texas town–a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. An enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body. He’s now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State.
The adaptation of the critically-acclaimed novel will mark a first for AfterShock Media CEO, Jon Kramer, and President, Lee Kramer on a project seperate from their own slate. The two will partner with Legendary Entertainment who have acquired worldwide film rights, also marking a second pairing for both entities since the announcement of AfterShock’s Animosity for film development back in June.
Jon Silk brought the project in and is overseeing with Jay Ashenfelter for Legendary Entertainment.
