MAZE RUNNER Reboot In The Works At 20th Century Studios
Wes Ball’s three-part adaptation of James Dashner’s “Maze Runner” was a bookmark in post-Twilight YA fanfare success for 20th Century Fox at the time. Suffice it to say though, it still feels too soon to discuss a reboot at this point, but it’s expected given the current environment with studios’ prominent reliance on IPs over original concepts.
Indeed, a reboot is in the works over at the same studio ten years after the first film released to the masses. 20th Century Studios is shepherding the efforts with Jack Paglen (Transcendence) writing the screenplay, and Ball back on board this time as producer. Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario led the cast of the three films which chronicle a group of teen survivors as their battle their way through a dystopian world after conquering a maze surrounded by deadly traps and robotic creatures.
As THR’s Borys Kit notes, “The hope is to make a sort of continuation of the story yet also return to the elements that made the first movie connect with its audience.”
Kinda makes you wonder if there’s hope yet for the Divergent crowd Lionsgate generated around then… hm.
