PIG VILLAGE: Don Lee Reteams With ‘The Roundup 2 & 3’ Director For Hollywood Action Adventure, Cast Announced
Korean superstar Don Lee (a.k.a. Ma Dong-seok) is finally heading up a Hollywood feature in Pig Village. Lee, whose recent turns on the screen include Marvel’s The Eternals, as well as his numerable regional hit appearances in zombie thriller Train To Busan and Unstoppable, and the ongoing Roundup cop thriller franchise, is joined by Lee Sang-young (The Roundup, The Roundup: No Way Out) who will direct.
Production is already underway and is expected to wrap soon according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Patrick Brzeski, who notes a cast roster that additionally lists that following: Colin Woodell, Ali Ahn, Abraham Popoola, Lisette Olivera, Michael Rooker, and K-pop star Nancy of MOMOLAND, along with Alex Meraz, Darri Ingolfsson, Emeraude Toubia, Griffin Gluck, and Daniel Velez. Locations for Pig Village include a small portion in California, with most of the film to be shot in South Korea with English dialogue, marking a first for a production of this kind.
Set against the backdrop of the U.S.-Mexico border, Pig Village follows Hammer (Lee), a bare-knuckle boxer who becomes ensnared in a deadly web of crime and corruption after botching a fixed fight in San Diego. He soon finds himself in the crosshairs of cartel fugitives, criminals and corrupt lawmen at Pig Village — a last-stop hotel near the border where chaos reigns and everyone is after the same pot of money.
Rooker plays Steve, a crooked detective with a ruthless streak who holds the key to Hammer’s only weakness. Woodell takes on the role of Randy, a psychopathic killer on a bloody rampage.
Pig Village hails from Plus M Entertainment and ABO Entertainment for its distribution. Lee is also producing the film through his Big Punch Pictures label next to Nova Film and B&C Content. Plus M will be on hand at the Marche du Film this month repping the film internationally.
“Designing and making a true Hollywood action film through the Korean production system has been a dream of mine for years,” said Lee in a statement. “Pig Village brings together top-tier talent from both Hollywood and Korea, blending the strengths of both industries into something totally original and globally exciting.”
Added Rooker: “The moment I read Pig Village, I was in. Don Lee is a force, and the chance to work with him and this badass Korean production team was something I couldn’t pass up. This film is wild, original — and I think audiences around the world are gonna eat it up.”
Lee will next appear in Holy Night: Demon Hunters, the new supernatural action horror opening in Korean cinemas on April 30 from Lotte. Capelight Pictures is releasing the film on May 2 in North America.
