SDCC '14: BATMAN V SUPERMAN Tops The New List Of New WB/DC Films To Be Announced

San Diego Comic Con is just sixteen days away with attendees preparing to line-up with their badges and special costumes to gather celebrate the four-day event to learn more about their beloved multi-media properties, and that especially goes for superhero movie fans eager for what lies ahead from the folks at DC and Warner Bros. with the upcoming release of Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice. That being said, leave it to Deadline founder-now self-employed industry reporter Nikki Finke to share what she’s learning from her sources about what fans can expect from an announcement to be made next month when SDCC 2014 kicks off.

On Thursday, Finke’s first piece on her new site introduces a list of films that are reportedly in development and may very well be announced next month. A few of these films have made some headlines in previous months, with BvS being one and another being Sandman with actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt possibly taking on the dual role of acting and directing in it for Warner Bros. from a script by Jack Thorne based on the work of comic book author Neil Gaiman. The list also comes just off of recent news of up to 11 DC superhero comic book movies in the works over at Warner Bros., so I wouldn’t be suprised of what isn’t on the new list right now won’t come back again to joyfully delight us in the near or hopefully not-too-distant future.

Here are the goods:

May 2016 – Batman v Superman

July 2016 – Shazam

Xmas 2016 – Sandman

May 2017 – Justice League

July 2017 – Wonder Woman

Xmas 2017 – Flash and Green Lantern team-up

May 2018 – Man Of Steel 2

Finke mentions that at least two  other projects – a Metal Men and Suicide Squad movie were on the list 2016 before being shelved. She also provides a quote from her source regarding why Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice was pushed so far back for another two summers. “Like Marvel’s The Avengers, there will be cameos of superheroes for future installments.” says her source. “The cameos will include the already known Cyborg and Flash. Green Lantern [not played by Ryan Reynolds, thank god] may be introduced.  And Aquaman will be seen in the Justice League movie. Problem is, Warner Bros Pictures was still negotiating with the actors for those cameos and future roles, meaning major contracts for multiple JL/character films to follow. The studio didn’t want to move forward until they had more of this secure so they held off starting production for a few months. Seemingly simple reason, but the implications are pretty darn huge.”

More surprises await between now and the next four years as Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice moves ahead for its May 6, 2016 release opposite the Russo brothers’ Captain America 3 for Marvel and Disney, in addition to BvS co-star, actress Gal Gadot‘s upcoming appearance as Wonder Woman as per her three-picture deal with Warner Bros. announced earlier this year. In the meantime, Comic Con International takes place this summer at the San Diego Convention Center between preview night on WednesdayJuly 23, with the event lasting between 24-27.
